The three Southland Tales prequel graphic novels have been combined to form this very cool collection. Southland Tales: The Prequel Saga will be available in bookstores everywhere in late October. This art shows both the the back cover and beginning/end flaps, which are an extension of the inverted American flag concept from the theatrical poster (which I didn’t care for much). I have read the prequel books, and I frankly don’t understand how anyone would be able to understand the plot of the film without first reading these. There is so much vital information relayed in this collection, that it should almost be a requirement before someone sees Richard Kelly’s film.

Southland Tales Movie Trailer This Week; Darko’s Dirty Girl
Posted on Monday, September 17th, 2007 by Peter Sciretta
I know we told you that it would be online earlier this month, but now Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly assures us that the trailer for Southland Tales will be “released this week in a very big way.” Whatever that means. We’ve been looking forward to this for a while now.
Kelly has also officially launched Darko Entertainment, which aims to back “modestly budgeted, director-driven films.” The first project without Kelly attached will be in association with Killer Films.
Abe Sylvia’s Dirty Girl is a comedic story of the search for identity and the redemptive power of unexpected friendship. Danielle is the dirty girl of Norman High School. When Danielle’s misbehavior gets her banished to special ed, she teams up with an innocent closet-case and together they head out on a road trip to discover each other and themselves through a funny and serendipitous friendship.

Cinematical has posted the new theatrical poster for Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, and it doesn’t look good.
Don’t get me wrong. I want Southland Tales to be good. Even if it isn’t good, I want it to make money just because I feel Richard Kelly somehow deserves it. But when a movie distributor clearly has no idea how to sell a film, or starts using deceptive marketing materials, that is usually a sure sign that the film will fail at the box office. This poster has too much going on, and gives me no indication of what this movie is about. The double poster layout is confusing, and the film’s stars are clearly in focus to attract an audience that might not otherwise enter into such a film. It seems like something that would be devised by a marketing department for the DVD release of a failed theatrical movie (Donnie Darko anyone?).
Check out the new poster after the jump.

A little bird on my shoulder is telling me that the trailer for Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales will most likely hit the web tomorrow. In anticipation, we present you with this new clip [via: filmick] which we swear we’ve somehow seen before (so maybe it isn’t new? My memory fails me). The shot scene features The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Seann William Scott talking about a movie idea/script. Check it out after the jump.

Southland Tales: Mandy Moore and New Production Photos
Posted on Tuesday, August 7th, 2007 by Peter Sciretta
Someone sent us some new photos from Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales. But first some news for Mandy Moore fans: A month ago Mandy Moore made a comment, wondering if she still appeared in the movie, after director Richard Kelly announced that the film had undergone major reedits:
“I play The Rock’s wife in the movie, if I’m still in the movie at all,” Moore told Sci-Fi. “They had to cut it down so much, and maybe they just cut out my character altogether.”
Mandy Moore fans need not worry, Kelly has confirmed:
“Mandy Moore is still very much in the film… and very little of her role was cut.”
Okay, now for the photos. The first one can be seen above the news story and shows Justin Timberlake and is titled “All These Things I’ve Done”. We’ll continue with more after the jump.
Southland Tales Release Date Announced, Movie Trailer in Mid-August
Posted on Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 by Peter Sciretta

Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly will be at Comic Con on Friday. Today the official release date for Southland Tales was announced. The film will hit theaters on November 9th 2007.
“I will be down at Comic-Con to sign copies of the new Southland Tales teaser poster,” Kelly wrote on his MySpace Blog.
Kelly also reveals that the Southland Tales movie trailer will be released in mid-August. I’m guessing that it will be attached to either Stardust on August 10th or The Invasion on the 17th. Kelly will appear from 11:00am to 1:00pm at table AA 12 at the Sails Pavillion. Photo courtesy of FirstShowing.
Southland Tales Release Date To Be Announced Soon
Posted on Sunday, July 8th, 2007 by Peter Sciretta
In case you were wondering (because we certainly were), Southland Tales is still in post production, and will eventually see the light of day. Director Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) says that they are about half way through completing all the new visual effects.
“We have to deliver everything by the end of summer,” Kelly wrote on his blog. “I have to tell everyone that the amount of visual effects work being added to the film is SIGNIFICANT… and I am so grateful for the work being done by Thomas Tannenberger and his team at Gradient VFX in Venice Beach.”
And I’m sure everyone is also wondering, when are we going to get to see a trailer? Kelly says that Sony has hired a company to cut the trailer and that “the release date will be announced very soon.” Possibly at Comic-Con later this month? I can’t wait. Am I the only one who still has hope for this film?
