The Mummy featurette

We can usually rely on Tom Cruise to save our world in the movies. But in The Mummy, he helps to bring about its destruction by discovering one pissed off mummy, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella) to be exact. Once again, the world will call upon Tom Cruise to save us all in Alex Kurtzman‘s film (even if it’s his fault this time), which is the first entry in the potential Universal Monster Universe.

Below, watch The Mummy featurette, which contains a decent amount of new footage from the adventure movie.

The Mummy teaser

After a false start with Dracula Untold, the Universal Monsters franchise is ready to get going for real with its first big release, The Mummy. Directed by Alex Kurtzman, the film stars Tom Cruise as the hero who gets mixed up in some kind of trouble involving an ancient, wronged, and very pissed-off princess (played by Star Trek Beyond‘s Sofia Boutella).

Today the first The Mummy poster has arrived, along with a little The Mummy teaser for the trailer arriving this weekend. See it all after the jump.  Read More »

Star Trek Beyond Review

After recycling a little too much of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan for the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, the rebooted franchise based on Gene Roddenberry’s classic sci-fi series needed a new direction to bring some freshness back to the final frontier. Thankfully, with Star Trek Beyond, director Justin Lin has managed to craft a extremely entertaining journey back into space for the USS Enterprise. It’s a sequel that blends some of the signature style of the classic Star Trek series with the action sensibilities of a modern blockbuster.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ Clip: Scotty Meets Jaylah

star trek beyond clip

Now that 2009’s Star Trek re-introduced the classic Enterprise crew and 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness did everything in its power to wreck them, Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond has a bold new task before it: introducing new characters and allowing them to stand out amidst a cast of familiar faces and iconic names. We’ll hopefully get a memorable new adversary in Idris Elba‘s Krall and as this new clip from the film seems to indicate, Sofia Boutella‘s Jaylah certainly appears to be a unique addition to the ensemble.

Star Trek Beyond Set Visit

Last Summer, I visited the set of Star Trek Beyond in Vancouver, Canada. Find out what I learned on set, including how over 50 new alien species were created for this film in honor of Trek’s 50th anniversary, how director Justin Lin has put an end to JJ Abrams’ “camera hand jobs” (yes, you just read that right) and much much more.

Annabelle Wallis in Peaky Blinders

Every cinematic shared universe begins with a single film, and for the prospective Universal Monsters franchise, that’s The Mummy. (Well, at one point it was Dracula Untold, but Universal seems perfectly happy to forget that one ever existed, and to let everyone else forget it too.) Which is why it’s so important for the studio to get it right. So far, things look reasonably promising.

They hired Alex Kurtzman to direct, and convinced Tom Cruise to lend his A-list star wattage as the leading man. They got Sofia Boutella to play the Mummy herself, adding an interesting gender-swapped wrinkle to the project. And now they’re starting to fill up some of the other roles. First up is Annabelle Wallis, probably best known from the U.K. TV series Peaky BlindersRead More »

Sofia Boutella

It’s a tired habit to describe any reboot as “not your father’s [insert name of property here].” But we can definitively say that Alex Kurtzman‘s upcoming The Mummy will not be your father’s The Mummy. How do we know? Well, for starters, she’ll be a woman.

The really great part, though, is which woman she’ll be. Sofia Boutella, the scene-stealing henchwoman from this spring’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, is in talks to take the title role in The Mummy opposite Tom Cruise. More on The Mummy Sofia Boutella casting after the jump.  Read More »

Star Trek Beyond uniforms

It looks like director Justin Lin is bringing some changes to the Star Trek franchise. A video from the set of Star Trek Beyond reveals Kirk (Chris Pine) in a redesigned Starfleet uniform. In addition, we get a glimpse of Sofia Boutella as a new character who appears to hail from an entirely new alien species. See the new Star Trek Beyond uniforms and character after the jump.  Read More »

Cool Posts From Around the Web:

Sofia Boutella

Star Trek 3 is ramping up, with a script by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, with Justin Lin set to direct. We know very little about the film at this point, but we can presume that cast members such as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana will return, and we know that Idris Elba plays a villain. Now the cast has a new member, as Algerian actress Sofia Boutella, last seen in Kingsman: The Secret Service, has signed on to play “a lead role.” Read More »
