Remember last year when the dueling Snow White films were such a big deal? Much has changed since then. The first, Mirror Mirror, is now in theaters and is doing okay. Reviews were solid but it’s not lighting up the box office or anything (Thanks Katniss). Next up is Snow White and the Huntsman, directed by Rupert Sanders, described as the less family-friendly, more epic, action-packed spin on the classic story. The evil Queen (Charlize Theron) hires a fearless huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to find and capture Snow White (Kristen Stewart), but the pair instead team up – and enlist the help of eight dwarfs – to fight the Queen. It’s coming out June 1 but seems a bit lost in a vast release schedule of Summer.
The latest trailers have expanded the scope quite a bit, though, raising fan anticipation higher than ever. This latest video reigns in that massive scope and concentrates on the film’s costumes, including the many looks of Kristen Stewart’s Snow White, all created by Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood. If you watched last night’s Mad Men premiere you might have caught a couple of TV spots for upcoming films for which we’ve only just started to see a lot of footage. Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows has two new spots, both with bits of new footage, and Snow White and the Huntsman had a couple new spots debut over the weekend, as well.
The spot with the best new footage is, sadly, the one we have in the poorest quality. The second Snow White and the Huntsman TV spot opens with some footage of the Queen (Charlize Theron) and a young Snow White in less combative days; I think those clips are new to all of us. And the Dark Shadows spots have some new bits of Johnny Depp being, well, Johnny Depp. Check out all four spots below. Read More »
Here’s the latest trailer for Universal’s version of the Snow White story: Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Charlize Theron as the evil queen, and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman who rebels against the queen’s wishes, and spares Snow’s life. We also finally get to see a lot more of the Dwarfs, played by actors such as Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Ray Winstone, and Nick Frost.
But the new trailer isn’t alone. There is also a five-minute extended story reel that shows a lot more than we’ve seen before, presented in a quick-cut montage. Now the film’s LotR-like ambitions are even more clear, and the suggestion that this might be an entertaining and creature-filled adventure comes through loud and clear.
Update: Evidently the current embeds are not viewable outside the US. We have no control over that, and when something better is available we’ll drop it in and remove this note.

WonderCon 2012 took over the Anaheim Convention Center this year, so more Hollywood studios were in attendance than in previous San Francisco-based editions. While there wasn’t a lot of newsworthy bits to come out of the panels this year, we did get to see a lot of footage from upcoming films: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Prometheus, Snow White and the Huntsman, Battleship and Rian Johnson‘s Looper.
After the con closed its doors, I recorded a video blog with /Film writers Germain Lussier and Adam Quigley, joined by Alex Billington from FirstShowing.net. We give reactions to all the footage we saw (with exception of The Amazing Spider-Man, since it was the same sizzle reel I posted about last month). We try not to go into descriptions, and instead just give you our reactions. Watch it now embedded after the jump.

The ‘trailer for a trailer’ practice continues with the debut of a new bit of footage for Snow White and the Huntsman, aka Universal’s action-oriented entry in the Snow White race. (The other primary competitor in that contest is Relativity’s Mirror, Mirror, directed by Tarsem.) Kristen Stewart stars as Snow White, Charlize Theron is the evil queen, and Chris Hemsworth is the Huntsman who rebels against the queen’s wishes, and spares Snow’s life. Oh, and actors playing the Dwarfs include Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Ray Winstone, and Nick Frost.
If you wanted more actual footage than we got from that miniscule Dark Shadows trailer preview last night, this will do the trick. A good bit of what is seen in this preview for the upcoming new Huntsman trailer is footage that was released in the past couple months, but there are some new shots in there, too. From the perspective of creating a fantasy landscape, the film looks superficially successful, at least, but it remains difficult to predict whether there will be more to the picture than that. The first Snow White film, Mirror Mirror, is due out in a few weeks but the second one, Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Therton, is still a few months out. It’ll be released in the United States on June 1 and while we’ve already seen a pretty revealing teaser trailer here, the shorter Japanese trailer for the film has some new footage. Check it out after the jump. Read More »
