sherlock-s3-teaser

Here’s the first teaser trailer for the third season of the wonderful BBC series Sherlock. We know this season opens with most of the characters reacting to the fact that Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) isn’t quite dead, and so in the teaser we see the shadow of his return to the world. Also, Martin Freeman is rocking quite the mustache. Read More »

Sherlock

Just over a week ago at Comic Con we got a peek at this middle of the third season of Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. We also learned a bit about how the season begins. But what we didn’t know, until now, was the name of any new actor who’ll be making trouble for Sherlock and Watson this time out.

Now we’ve got a name, for both the character and the actor. We’ll keep all the details after the break; read on for a tantalizing glimpse at the next season. Read More »

The BBC and PBS Masterpiece series Sherlock was the highlight of a panel at Comic Con today, with producers Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat, and Sue Vertue in attendance. Not in the house were the show’s stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, because they are occupied with finishing up The Hobbit and filming the third season of Sherlock.  But the two actors were showcased in a video introduction to the panel — greeted with Twilight panel-worthy screams from the audience — in which Cumberbatch “explained” just how Sherlock made it out of the end of season two.

The panel that followed was light on news but very entertaining, as Matiss, Moffat, and Vertue evaded questions and offered up a few observations about making the show, all the way through the nearly-complete third season. You can watch the actors’ video intro below, after which we’ll run down a few panel highlights. Needless to say there are some mild spoilers for the end of the second season below, and anyone who wants to go into the thitd season cold should watch the video below, but skip the panel recap. Webb Cuaron Wright

And so it begins. The schedule for Wednesday night and Thursday at San Diego Comic Con 2013 has been revealed kicking off four days of scheduling madness. There are several early highlights on what’s traditionally the second slowest day of the Con, but one standout is a Hall H conversation between Alfonso Cuaron, Marc Webb and Edgar Wright. Webb and Wright’s movies (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The World’s End) are already confirmed for the convention, but this all but solidifies Gravity will be there too.

On the movie side of things there’s also Europa Report, Ender’s Game, Divergent and Terry Gilliam’s Zero Theorum. On the TV side, there’s Dexter, The X-Files and Sherlock. And that’s only a small sampling. Below, check out the full schedule as well as some highlights. Read More »

Yesterday the news came out that the third season of BBC’s Sherlock is about to go into production, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reprising their lead roles as modern day versions of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.

There was some question as to whether the third season might be the show’s last. Scheduling the long shoot is difficult, as each of the three episodes per season is basically structured like a mini-movie, and Cumberbatch and Freeman are increasingly busy with movie careers.

But now Cumberbatch has confirmed that a fourth season is planned.  Read More »

BBC’s Sherlock is technically, a TV show. But with episodes that are the length of a film, and two stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, who have become major movie actors, the show might as well be a movie. The point being: it takes an unusual bit of scheduling to create.

The second season aired over a year ago in the UK and 10 months ago in the US, climaxing in a major cliffhanger. Since then, thanks in large part to Netflix, more and more people are finding out about this fascinating and entertaining show, and all are anxiously waiting new episodes.

The wait has been long, and will continue to be long, but there’s hope on the horizon. The stars are back and the third season will begin filming next week. Read more below. Read More »

This morning Megan Fox, Ed Helms, and Jessica Alba announced the nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the event, is famous for nominating films and performances simply based on their star factor — if there’s an actor that members of the HFPA want to hang out with, they’re sure to get a nomination.

But the HFPA is great at putting on a show, and so the Golden Globes generate a lot of attention every year. And, as the NY Times points out, with the Globes nominations coming just days before Oscar nomination voting starts, there’s a possibility that nominations here could affect Oscar voting. The Best Picture nomination set includes what is already becoming a standard set of awards favorites, such as Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, and Zero Dark Thirty, but there are also nominations for Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Django Unchained. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen picked up a few nominations, actually, which was one of  the big surprises.

The Golden Globes will air on January 13, 2013, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The full nomination list is below. Read More »
