Generally speaking, I’m not much of a holiday person. I’m just too cold and dead inside to get caught up in the magic of it all. But if there’s one thing that can get me to feel some seasonally appropriate warm fuzzies, it’s probably Sense8, a show so earnestly empathetic that I find it impossible to resist. And wouldn’t you know it, they’ve got a Christmas special coming just in time.
Created by Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski, and J. Michael Straczynski, the sci-fi drama centers on eight people around the world who realize they’re psychically and spiritually linked. There’s some of the usual sci-fi drama stuff about digging for answers and running from another “cluster” out to harm them, but mostly it’s about how wonderful it is that these eight people basically have seven extra friends rattling around in their heads. If you haven’t seen season one, you’ve still got a few days left to catch up before the special drops next week. If you have seen season one, you should click on through to find out what’s next. Netflix comes bearing gifts. Whether they’re wanted or unwanted gifts, though, will depend on your tolerance for Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski‘s brand of metaphysical sci-fi insanity. The streaming service has officially announced that a Sense8 Christmas special will drop later this month, just as we suspected. But that’s not all. They’ve also confirmed a Sense8 season 2 premiere date for 2017, and shared a batch of first-look photos from the new run of episodes. Read More »

If Lana and Lilly Wachowski‘s particular brand of gonzo sci-fi metaphysicality is up your alley (and I say that with no judgment; it is very much up mine), Netflix may have a gift waiting under the tree for you next month. It looks like a Sense8 Christmas special will be dropping just a few days before the holiday, possibly ahead of a full Sense8 season 2 release in 2017. Read More »
Netflix doesn’t release its viewership numbers. In fact, even people that work on the streaming service’s shows, like Kevin Spacey, don’t know exactly how many people have watched their work. Since Netflix doesn’t sell advertisements, they don’t feel obligated to release those figures. If they’re happy with the numbers — as they were with their most-watched movie ever, The Ridiculous Six — they don’t feel the need to boast about them. If they’re not pleased with viewership, then very few people outside of Netflix will ever know about it. Unless a show gets the ax, of course.
The streaming service hasn’t come out and said how many viewers their original content attracts, but the company has released the Netflix Binge Scale, revealing which shows are the most devoured (Sense8, Grace & Frankie) or savored (Daredevil, Narcos) by their customers.

After the jump, watch the candid announcement video revealed by Netflix this weekend to tell fans about Sense8 season two. Read More »
We’ve reached the end of a very busy week. There were tons of trailers and some pretty big news stories, so this is a pretty beefy edition of the Best Stories of the Week.
Recapping the news from the past seven days, you’ll find updates on the future of Marvel Studios‘ television side and Samuel L. Jackson in the cinematic universe, some rumors about the future of Star Wars and details on the past of a certain iconic character from the saga, a first look at The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, new writers for the Transformers franchise and future universe and more.
Plus, there’s trailers for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Steven Spielberg’s Bride of Spies, Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, and a double dose of Jake Gyllenhaal in Southpaw and Everest, and that’s not even half of the (mostly) great, new trailers we saw this week. Catch up on the Best Stories of the Week after the jump! Read More »
