Since so much of the appeal of American Reunion lies in whatever lingering affection you have for 1999′s American Pie, it’s only natural that the marketing folks would try at every turn to remind you of how much you loved the first movie. That tactic is especially evident in the film’s just-released poster, which recreates the one from the original.

Sure, Jim (Jason Biggs) has clothes on, Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) is holding a baby bottle instead of a flute, Oz (Chris Klein) has way less hair, and the gang is apparently eating pies now instead of fucking them — but the overall picture looks very familiar. Check it out after the jump.

Since the run-up to the release of Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age in 2002, the best spokesman — spokesanimal? — for the film series has been a creature that can barely speak. The acorn-obsessed Scrat, a sabre-toothed squirrel, has starred in trailers and shorts and is one of the most consistently entertaining parts of the actual films. With the latest film in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, hitting theaters in July 2012, Fox and Blue Sky are way ahead of the curve in getting the word out. The first part of the short Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up showed up way back in January of this year, and now we’ve got the conclusion. Check it out below. Read More »

Because film development has turned into a game that is more competitive than most sports, we have dueling pictures brewing for a great many subjects. Hockey is a pretty natural subject for a movie duel, however. The film Goon is the first of two to come out of the gate.

Goon stars Seann William Scott as a bouncer who is recruited for a minor league hockey team based on his domineering fighting skills. Magnet bought the movie for US distribution after it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, and we’ve already seen a Canadian teaser trailer that showed off the movie’s basic look and tone.

Now here’s the full trailer that will play in Canada; we can probably expect basically the same clip to be released for US audiences with the Magnet logo tacked on. Check it out below.

Update: A red-band US trailer hit today, too, and has been added below. Read More »

The debut red-band teaser for American Reunion, which brings together all the original characters from American Pie, was all about sex — or the fact that, even as adults, some of the former kids still aren’t getting off the way they want to.

This all ages trailer is all about partying, as the Pie guys (and girls) get back together after a few years to enjoy their high school reunion. While the red-band was amusing up to a point, this trailer seems to be avoiding all jokes, perhaps so they can be fresh in the full movie. But if you want to see Stifler in prime shouting mode, and the possible hookup of a couple Pie parents, check out the trailer below. Read More »

The American Pie kids are all grown up, but that doesn’t mean that things have fundamentally changed. An adult-oriented teaser for American Reunion has arrived, and it shows how delicately the film handles the topic of finding time to jerk off when you’ve got a kid. Check it out below.

Kevin Smith isn’t the only one with a hockey movie brewing. You might recall that Seann William Scott was provisionally cast in Smith’s next and possibly last film, Hit Somebody, but then ended up starring in this other hockey comedy, Goon, instead.

Goon stars Scott as a bouncer who joins a minor league hockey team as he discovers his talents for fighting and skating. Liev Schreiber is his mustachioed nemesis, Alison Pill is a romantic interest and Jay Baruchel plays a supporting role. Baruchel wrote with Evan Goldberg (Superbad co-writer) inspired by the book Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, written by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio.

The film played at Toronto to great audience response (Toronto certainly being the best fest at which to debut a hockey film) and subsequently sold to Magnet for around $2m. A few more details, and a new Canadian trailer are after the break. Read More »

Tough as it is to believe, it’s been over a decade since we first met the American Pie cast in 1999. If that made you pause and think “Wow, that makes me feel old,” you’re just where Universal Pictures wants you to be. The marketing team behind American Reunion has been pushing the nostalgia angle (not surprisingly), and I, for one, have found it totally effective. Their latest effort is a montage of the core cast goofing off inside a photobooth — a simple idea that might nevertheless have you going “awww” as each familiar face flashes by. Hit the jump to see the slideshow, plus a promo image of the Class of 1999.

We’re already aware of many of the plot points that’ll be covered in American Reunion, the forthcoming eighth(!) installment of the American Pie franchise. Basically, the new film will see the whole gang from the first film come together once more for their high school reunion. Some things will have changed; other things not so much. (I’m going to guess that the gross, raunchy humor will be part of the “not so much” category.)

Now a new synopsis has been revealed, and it reveals just one more tidbit: Apparently, one of the characters is still pining for a certain lusty lady whom he bedded in the original American Pie. (Um, spoilers for a twelve-year-old movie.) Read the studio-approved official plot details after the jump.
