As two Snow White films gear up to go into production, the next big fairy tale that’ll be racing to the big screen is Peter Pan. Several competing projects, all with slightly altered takes on the classic J.M. Barrie tale, are in various stages of development and now one seems to have jumped ahead of the pack. Essential Entertainment has reportedly cast Aaron Eckhart, Sean Bean and AnnaSophia Robb in a dark take on the Peter Pan tale last year rumored to be called Pan, written by Ben Magid (Hack/Slash) and directed by Ben Hibon (who did the animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One). In the film, Captain Hook (Eckhart) and his partner Smee (Bean) would chase Pan, a villainous kidnapper, whose last victim Wendy (Robb) helps track him down. Read More »
The Silent Hill sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, is shooting right now in Toronto, and keeps adding cast members as it does. Director Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) already had Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington starring, with Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean and Deborah Kara Unger reprising their Silent Hill roles in some unknown capacity.
Now a press release announces that the film also boasts Carrie-Ann Moss as Claudia Wolf and Malcolm McDowell as Leonard Wolf. In the video game Silent Hill 3, Claudia is a major character (modeled to look like Julianne Moore, actually) who sets a good chunk of the plot in motion, and isn’t exactly a passive or sane presence. UPDATE: Moments after publishing this, I saw that Deadline had updated the source story completely changing it. In the original piece below I suspected that the first story published at Deadline was a way to push forward a deal between Liam Neeson and the producers of Taken 2. Whether or not that was the intent, such a thing is now happening. So everything below, ninety minutes after Deadline first reported it, is now a non-issue. The actor and producers have worked things out and a shoot for late this year or early 2012 is now being scheduled. Original article follows.
After Taken proved to be a wild, unexpected hit, it didn’t take long for talk to begin of Taken 2. Liam Neeson has said that he was definitely ready to do the film, and a script has been under way. But now there is a big wrinkle: the actor is reportedly pulling away from the film, which producer and co-writer Luc Besson wants to shoot this year. The actor, meanwhile, wants to take some time off. It could be stalemate, but Luc Besson may just go ahead with the film, with a different actor in the central role. Read More »
When we first heard about Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, the film sounded more like a spin-off than a sequel to Christoph Gans’ 2006 film Silent Hill. Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) wrote and is directing this new film right now in Toronto, with Adelaide Clemens and Kit Harington starring.
But now three major cast members from the previous film have been added. If you’re a fan of George R.R. Martin‘s fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, this is your week. The fifth novel in the series, A Dance With Dragons, was officially announced yesterday, over five years after the publication of the last book. (That was A Feast For Crows, published in October 2005.)
And, more specific to our concerns, there is a new trailer for the HBO adaptation of the first novel in the series, Game of Thrones. Briefly: Earlier today we saw some trailers and info on the new HBO offerings Mildred Pierce and The Sunset Limited. Now there’s a premiere date for Game of Thrones, the adaptation of George R.R. Martin‘s novels with a pilot directed by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor). The show will debut Sunday, April 17.
Though I wasn’t knocked out by the trailer for this one I’m still on the hook, not so much because of the source material (which I know is the key factor for a great many fans) but because I’m so curious to see what Tom McCarthy and his cast have done with an adult fantasy setting. David Benioff and Dan Weiss are the lead writers and producers, and the cast includes Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Iain Glen, Lena Headey, Richard Madden and Sophie Turner. [EW]
