Scott Pilgrim Book Differences

When you look at how director Edgar Wright presented Scott Pilgrim vs the World for the big screen, you would think that the film adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley‘s graphic novel series would be pretty loyal to the source material. For the most part, that’s true. But since the screenplay by Michael Bacall went into development shortly after the release of the first volume in the book series, there was a time when the books were being released while the screenplay was being written.

Beyond that, since films rarely are able to directly translate a book to the big screen, there are plenty of differences between the Scott Pilgrim vs the World movie and the books that inspired it. Thankfully, a new video essay runs through all the Scott Pilgrim book differences, and you can watch it below. Read More »

Cool Stuff: Scott Pilgrim Action Figures

Generally I’m  bulletproof when it comes to little plastic versions of things I love. But even my cold heart is tempted by these Scott Pilgrim figures, which are a fine little recreation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s art style. They’re a bit pricey at $30 for the pair, and don’t release until April of 2011. But there’s a pre-order up now at Mezco Toys, and I’d be surprised if these aren’t gone way before the actual objects hit the street next year. Larger pics are after the break.

The Best and Worst of Comic-Con 2010

Comic-Con 2010 is over, and I’m still reeling from the experience. Just like last year, the entire event was a whirlwind with insane crowds, a healthy dose of line waiting, and some unexpected bits of awesome. By the time it was over, I was more than ready to go home. But I know for a fact that in a week or two I’ll be screaming “We have to go back!” — while disheveled and inexplicably bearded.

At some point this week, the entire /Film crew will record their overall thoughts of the event on a special episode of the /Filmcast. But for now, here are my personal picks for the best and worst of Comic-Con 2010. (Fair warning: I didn’t include some major panels [see: Marvel stuff] that failed to get me excited. If you liked those panels, and others I didn’t mention let us know in the comments.)

Video Blog: Comic-Con 2010 Preview

/Film has landed at Comic-Con, and we’re gearing up to take it on with some great coverage — even though it doesn’t seem like there’s as much cool movie-related events as last year. (At least there’s no Twilight event this time around.) In this video blog, Peter, Adam, Russ, and Devindra chat about what they’re looking forward to the most at the convention, and why.

scott pilgrim vs. the world poster top

I know we’re a bit late on reporting this, but after listening to Adam WarRock’s excellent Scott Pilgrim rap recap, I just had to share it with you all. The song recaps the first five volumes of Scott Pilgrim in five minutes with some awesomely geeky rhymes. It also recently got some love from director Edgar Wright and  Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, so you know its nerd-approved.

WarRock has a habit creating geeky rhymes that don’t fall into the typical nerdcore category. I also recommend checking out his song about Ira Glass — it’s particularly endearing if you’re a This American Life nerd like me. He’s currently working on a studio album for Fall 2010. He also runs a comic book podcast with his War Rocket Ajax crew.

Take a listen to “I Gotta Believe”, the Scott Pilgrim recap, after the break. You can also listen to it at WarRock’s Tumblr site.
