Blomkamp's Alien

Fox is making Neill Blomkamp‘s new Alien movie, and Sigourney Weaver is definitely on board to reprise her Ellen Ripley role. And while we still don’t know the story, despite the teasing glimpses provided in concept art such as the pieces above, we do know something new: Blomkamp’s Alien will basically disregard Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection as the director says he’s designing the film to sit in sequence after Aliens.

Check out a video interview with Blomkamp and Weaver discussing the next Alien film, below.  Read More »

new linklater film

A new Richard Linklater film is a prospect we’ll happily look forward to. When it is a collaboration with Annapurna Pictures, the company run by Megan Ellison, we’re really going to perk up. Cool Posts From Around the Web:

Creed Synopsis

Creed sounds like a great way to structure a new chapter in the very long-running Rocky saga. For this film, Sylvester Stallone returns as Rocky, but he’s not the central figure. Rather, Rocky is working as trainer to Adonis Creed (Michael B Jordan, above), the son of his old rival Apollo Creed. In other words, Rocky is stepping into the shoes of his old trainer, Mickey. Now a Creed synopsis has surfaced, giving us a few new details about the story, including one which suggests the end of Rocky’s own path could be near. Read More »

Tomb Raider Movie Reboot

Six years ago, news of a Tomb Raider movie reboot first hit the web. It was being developed by GK Films as an origin story drawing inspiration from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. MGM then came on board and there a script was even commissioned. But we haven’t heard anything since 2013.

Now there’s the first significant update in two years. Warner Bros. has come on board to distribute the film, which will be written by Evan Daugherty, the writer of Snow White and the Huntsman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent and the upcoming G.I. Joe 3. Read more about the Tomb Raider movie reboot below. Read More »

ernest cline armada synopsis

Considering this site is called “Slashfilm,” we don’t cover a lot of books. But most books aren’t written by Ernie Cline. Cline first hit our radar as the writer of Fanboys, the Star Wars fan story directed by Kyle Newman. He then truly hit a home run with Ready Player One, a massive sci-fi adventure influenced by movies, music, video games and more. It’s currently being developed into a movie by Warner Bros. That’s why Cline’s work fits so well on this site. Those who live and breathe pop culture will truly appreciate it.

His second novel, Armada, sounds like it further explores some of the concepts he’s played with before. The movie rights were picked up last year and, finally, Random House has announced an official release date for the book: July 14. Along with that, we now have the cover and a full synopsis. However, in that synopsis is something very odd. It seems Cline is drawing heavily from The Last Starfighter. Could that actually be? Read the Armada synopsis below. Read More »
