Just yesterday, we got a big batch of promising photos from the set of Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables, and today we have something even better: the first teaser. While we’ve seen video of the cast on set before, this is our first time seeing actual footage from the movie. Expectations for this project have been sky-high ever since it was first announced, thanks to its beloved source material and A-list talents. This first video, at least, has no trouble living up to them.

Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe lead the cast as Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert in Hooper’s adaptation of the classic Victor Hugo novel and smash Broadway musical. Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Samantha Barks, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen also star. Watch the video after the jump.

The release date for Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables is still seven months out, but Oscar buzz has been surrounding this project from the get-go. No surprise there — it is, after all, a splashy cinematic adaptation of a beloved Broadway musical and classic Victor Hugo novel, with the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech at the helm and A-listers like Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Anne Hathaway among its stars. Regardless of how the finished product turns out, any film with that kind of pedigree is bound to attract a fair amount of attention.

Fortunately, what we’ve seen of it so far suggests that Les Misérables actually stands a chance of living up to all that hype. The first set photos of Jackman and Crowe (as leads Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, respectively) hit earlier this spring, and today we’ve got a fresh batch of official stills that show, in addition to Jackman, Crowe, and Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, and stage vet Samantha Barks as Éponine. Check out the new images after the jump.

After months of speculation, rumors, and reports, Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables has finally found its Éponine. Producer Cameron Mackintosh has just announced that 21-year-old stage vet Samantha Barks has landed the role. Barks is a newcomer when it comes to film and television, but has racked up plenty of experience in the theater — including a stint playing Éponine in a London production of Les Misérables.

Meanwhile, another fresh face, George Blagden, has also boarded the project, in the part of cynical young revolutionary Grantaire. Blagden and Barks join a high-profile cast that includes Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, and Aaron Tveit. Read more after the jump.
