Play It Again Dick trailer

While we wait and see whether the Veronica Mars movie ever gets a sequel, the Neptune gang is reuniting for something a little different. The web series Play It Again, Dick will take a meta approach to the noir cult hit, following Veronica Mars actor Ryan Hansen as he tries to convince his old co-stars (including Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring) to help get a Dick Casablancas-centric Veronica Mars spinoff in motion.

If the first Play It Again Dick trailer is any indication, that’ll be way easier said than done. Hit the jump to watch the first promo.

Veronica Mars web series

The whole Neptune gang is reuniting, but it’s not for a sequel per se. Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen, and more are set to star in Play It Again, Dick, a Veronica Mars spinoff about a Veronica Mars spinoff.

In keeping with the meta angle of the web series, the actors will be playing both themselves and their Veronica Mars characters. As creator Rob Thomas puts it, it’s the cast of Veronica Mars meets the “L.A. ‘reality’” of Party Down. Hit the jump for all the details.

Veronica Mars spin-off

Whether that long-awaited Veronica Mars movie will ever get a sequel is anyone’s guess. But Marshmallows will get a chance to return to Neptune later this year, sort of.

CW Seed, the digital arm of The CW network, has announced the Veronica Mars spin-off series Play It Again, Dick. Ryan Hansen will star, and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas will co-write and produce. Hit the jump for more details on the new show.

Update from Editor Peter Sciretta: In less than 12 hours from launching the kickstarter, Rob Thomas has raised over $2,000,000 for the Veronica Mars movie, hitting the goal of the project. Of course, they have 30 days left to go, and will still need the fans to help raise more money to allow them to do more in the story. $2 million might sound like a lot to many of you, but consider they lose an estimated $400,000 to Kickstarter fees and taxes. They will likely have to pay 20% in fees and taxes of any future raised funds too. And they also need to pay for the various rewards to those who have and will fund this project, which includes shipping posters, t-shirts, dvds and box sets. The film will likely have to be a union production, and while its expected the actors will be working close to scale (and participate in the back end) it still will be very costly at the absolute minimum level. Basically I’m saying, just because they’ve hit the goal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t “donate.” Do you want to see a good movie? Haven’t donated yet? You still have 30 days… The original story from Angie Han can be read after the jump.
