One of the films that featured prominently on the 2010 festival circuit, but didn’t get a 2010 U.S. release, was Quentin Dupieux‘s art house thriller Rubber. Starring a rolling, silent, killer tire, the concept alone is enough to get you into the theater. Thankfully, Dupieux then delivers the goods: a surprising blend of horror and meta-dissection of movie watching itself. After playing Cannes, Fantastic Fest, AFI and others, Rubber is finally going to get a proper release. Magnet will release the film to Video On Demand on February 25 and then theatrically on April 1. Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas is mere hours away and we’ve got a look at some of the awesome poster art from Mondo that will be on sale at the event. There are posters for Let Me In and Rubber both by /Film favorite Olly Moss, Roger Corman (co-winner of this year’s Fantastic Fest Lifetime Achievement Award) by Zach Hobbs, Red, White & Blue by Sawdust, Nevermore by Alan Hynes, and X: The Man With X-Ray Eyes by Rob Jones.

Cannes

The first weekend has finally hit at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, which means bigger crowds, longer lines, and more hub-bub about the star studded premieres on the red carpet. It also means that some of the more anticipated films of the festival have begun to premiere. The photo above shows the crowd of people waiting to get into the new Woody Allen film, as taken from the top of the red carpet stairs. Over the last 48 hours, I’ve screened new films from Oliver Stone, Woody Allen, Mike Leigh and Hideo Nakata. I wish I could rave about any of these films, but so far I’ve been unimpressed.

Yep, a killer tire. Yes, it seems like a joke, but is not. Rubber is a film written, shot and directed by Quentin Dupieux, and it will play as a special screening in the International Critic’s Week competition (La Semaine de la Critique) at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival later this month.
