I’m not indiscriminately against sequels, but for every X-Men: First Class, Kung Fu Panda 2, or Fast Five, there’s a The Hangover Part II, a Transformers: Dark of the Moon, or a Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. And while it’s admittedly unfair to jump to conclusions about movies before they’ve even entered production, the sequels we’re talking about today aren’t exactly at the top of my most-anticipated list. The first trailer for Happy Feet Two was the epitome of the word “teaser.” It was little more than a bunch of penguins dancing in unison to Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back. With the film’s release date now just over a month out, Warner Bros. has finally released a full, theatrical trailer that not only gives us an idea of the story also samples the almost mind-blowingly impressive voice cast this time around (Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Hank Azaria, Sofia Vergara, Pink, Hugo Weaving). A new trailer has been released for Happy Feet Two, the sequel to 2006′s dancing-CGI-penguin hit. Featuring the vocal talents of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Hank Azaria, and many others, Happy Feet Two tells the theoretically adorable tale of a young penguin who just wants to fly. The film is directed by George Miller, whose previous work includes the Mad Max movies, Lorenzo’s Oil, and the two Babe films. Watch the trailer after the jump.

We had a couple of days where mid-level casting for a lot of projects was going crazy. Maybe there was something in the air; maybe casting directors and agents just all got together and had a field day. It’s been a bit slower today, but still there are a couple of items to catch up on. In 2006 Warner Bros. released Happy Feet, the animated singing/dancing penguin movie that was then the latest step in George Miller‘s strange career. (Mad Max –> Babe –> Happy Feet.) Now he’s back with a sequel, Happy Feet Two, and the first teaser is out. I wasn’t planning to write about Gallery1988′s first annual “Is This Thing On” art show as it really has little connection to movies or television (or so I thought… the above piece featuring Judd Apatow mashed-up with the infamous Star Trek Tribbles episode is a fine example of this). The show, co-sponsored by FunnyOrDie, features over 100 artists, each creating pieces that are portraits of their favorite funny people, both beloved comics of yesteryear and emerging superstars.

Did you know that Alan Alda, Al Pacino, Eddie Muphy, Nicolas Cage, Prince, Bill Cosby, and Robin Williams auditioned for Back to the Future? No? Me neither. Probably because it didn’t happen. However, Saturday Night Live “uncovered” a set of never before released screen tests and premiered them on this weekend’s edition of the show. Gotta love Bill Hader as Al Pacino trying to deliver the classic “1.21 Gigawats” line. Hit the jump to watch them now.

Briefly: Terry Jones — the Monty Python member who directed The Life of Brian, not the nutter who wanted to burn the Qu’ran in Florida — is preparing to make his return to the director’s chair with Absolutely Anything. The film will star John Oliver, recently known as the Senior British Correspondent (among other titles) at The Daily Show. That makes Oliver the latest TDS alum to jump from small screen to large, and a well-deserved jump it should be.
Jones wrote the script with Gavin Scott, and it reportedly includes as diverse elements as “aliens, a goofy Brit, a talking dog and buckets of silliness,” to all of which I’ll simply say: ‘yes.’
We don’t have info about Oliver’s role (‘goofy Brit,’ one would assume) but Deadline says that Robin Williams is in talks to play the talking dog (named Dennis the Dog) while John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Terry Gilliam have all been contacted about voicing aliens. Again: yes. Absolutely Anything is currently hoping to shoot in Spring 2011.
