
The cast of Christopher McQuarrie‘s adaptation of Lee Child‘s novel One Shot is looking pretty good. Tom Cruise plays Jack Reacher, an ex-military cop who is called upon to assist the prime suspect in a series of sniper murders. Rosamund Pike plays a young defense lawyer who is also roped into the case; Richard Jenkins plays the DA trying to prosecute the sniper. David Oyelowo is a cop on the case, and Alexia Fast has a small role as a local girl with a tangential role in the story.
And now Robert Duvall has taken the call to play a small role. That role isn’t revealed, but there are two possibilities that quickly come to mind, and one of those is the villain. Read More »

Last year Billy Bob Thornton started to talk about a late ’60s-set family drama called Jayne Mansfield’s Car. He and Tom Epperson wrote the script, in part as a response to the fact that Mr. Thornton wasn’t all that taken with a lot of the films being made lately, and he plans to direct it this year. Vanity Fair have released the cover photo for their 2011 Hollywood Issue. The cover features Oscar co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco (also a best-actor nominee), along with Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal. The two inside panels feature 11 more stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Jennifer Lawrence, Noomi Rapace,, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Garrett Hedlund, and Robert Duvall. We haven’t heard a great deal about Jayne Mansfield’s Car in the couple months since the first details came out. We know that Billy Bob Thornton is directing, and that he co-wrote the script with his One False Move collaborator Tom Epperson.

Terry Gilliam‘s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has undergone quite a few changes. Since Gilliam first attempted to shoot the film in 2000 with Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort, the project has been put on hold, recast (with Ewan McGregor and Robert Duvall) and undergone at least one rewrite.
We’d previously heard that the rewrite had changed some small things, like the name and occupation of the main character. But now it seems that some serious changes have been wrought, which among other things might make the picture more attractive to financiers. Read More »

The first time Terry Gilliam tried to shoot The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, he had stars Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort. That production ran into myriad difficulties and was shut down (as chronicled by us in other articles and in the doc Lost in La Mancha) but Gilliam is about to try again. Last year he revealed that Rochefort’s role would be played by Robert Duvall. And now we know that Depp’s role will be taken by Ewan McGregor. Read More »
