Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens this Friday but it’s already begun screening and the buzz is big. Peter tweeted that “Rise of the Planet of the Apes vindicates this summer movie season.” George Roush of AMC echoed that by saying “Rise of The Planet of the Apes is hands down one of the best movies of the year.” Edward Douglas of Coming Soon saysRise of the Apes was absolutely fantastic– one of the best franchise reboots since Batman Begins. Andy Serkis gives an inspired performance.” And Devin Faraci of Badass Digest added the following: “What’s great about APES: the apes. They work, completely and totally. They are the heart and life of the film.”

Which leads us to today’s video. It’s of how WETA used innovative motion capture technology to create the apes in the film. Check it out after the jump and read more Apes praise. Read More »

20th Century Fox has been working hard to promote Rise of the Planet of the Apes, releasing trailers, clips, and even a series of viral videos. With just a couple weeks to go until the film’s opening, the studio has released another new clip, this time introduced by star Andy Serkis. The scene shows off main ape Caesar (Serkis) and his relationship to his caretaker Charles Rodman (John Lithgow) before all that “taking over the world” stuff happens. Watch the scene, which clocks in at just over three minutes, after the jump.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Viral Videos

Don’t sleep on Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Touted as “the summer’s last blockbuster,” the August 5th release has slowly crept up on us, bobbing and weaving between the big boys like Optimus Prime, Harry Potter and Captain America, with marketing that is a lot more subtle and frightening than what those other movies offer. Each trailer shows off more of WETA’s impressive motion capture work and as well as the down to earth, relatable story that sees Will (James Franco) trying to cure his father (John Lithgow) and mistakenly creating a serum that makes apes intelligent and will eventually cause the end of the world.

As part of the Apes marketing, 20th Century Fox has released several short, viral clips, posing as actual footage, of apes doing incredible things. If the words “20th Century Fox” weren’t splashed all over these clips, people might get legitimately scared. Read More »

We just saw a new commercial for Rise of the Planet of the Apes that had a lot of new footage, but that 60-second piece was pulled from YouTube fairly quick. Now there is a UK trailer that has a lot of the same footage, and more. Beware: you’ll walk away from this feeling like you’ve seen way too much of the movie. Check it out after the break, if that isn’t a problem. Read More »

While the two previously released trailers for Rise of the Planet of the Apes have focused more on action, this brand new 60 second TV spot finally strays from that. In the film, James Franco plays Will, a scientist who develops a drug intended to cure his father (John Lithgow) of Alzheimer’s disease. Will also discovers that the drug increases the intelligence of an ape named Caesar (Andy Serkis) and decides to bring him home. This 60-second clip focuses more on that family aspect, gives us our first real good look at Tom Felton‘s character and then, of course, kicks up the action. From what I know about Rise, this 60 second look is the best representation of the film yet, both in its tone, structure and percentage of action. Check out the new-footage-filled clip after the jump. Read More »

We can thank the MTV Movie Awards for the bounty of new videos today — in addition to that new Breaking Dawn trailer, which I’m sure you all loved, we also have brand-new clips from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and The Help. See them all after the jump.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Trailer #2

20th Century Fox has released a second movie trailer for Rupert Wyatt‘s Rise of the Planet of the Apes., starring James Franco, Andy Serkis, Frida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Tom Felton. The film is a prequel/reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise which takes place in present day with a science fact-like take on how animal testing leads to the end of the human race, and yes, the rise of the apes. The new trailer is more plot driven, concentrating on the animal testing set-up and the… rise of the apes. I’m a little bit worried that these trailers are overselling the third act action revolt, which much of the film comes from the set-up. But its looking good. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Do you feel like the Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer didn’t give you enough of the film’s full story? Then check out this new-ish featurette that explains a good chunk of the tale. I say ‘new-ish’ because this premiered during the Apes webcast that took place a few weeks back; this is just the standalone release. Check it out below if you want to see a bit of footage that wasn’t in the trailer and get a taste of what’s to come in this Planet of the Apes prequel and kinda/sorta vague remake of Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.
