In the Land of Blood and Honey is the directorial debut of Angelina Jolie, who also wrote the script about a pair of lovers, a Muslim and a Serb, whose relationship forms during the Bosnian War.
The poster has just been released, and it is an eye-catching image that bucks the trend of using headshots and/or overly composed, dry imagery to sell the war-torn romance. This was probably the only approach to take in order to sell the film in the US, given that the leads, Zana Marjanovi? and Goran Kostic, aren’t recognizable faces here. Bonus for us that we get a pretty good poster out of the deal. Check it out in full below. Read More »

With Saoirse Ronan already locked in for Andrew Niccol‘s The Host, the search is on for two handsome young lads to play the male leads. Jake Abel has just been selected for the part of Ian, beating out several competitors including Dane DeHaan (The Place Beyond the Pines), Thomas McDonnell (Prom), and Augustus Prew (Charlie St. Cloud). Abel, who’s still negotiating his deal, has worked with Ronan once previously on Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones. More recently, he’s also starred in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and I Am Number Four.
Based on a novel by Stephenie Meyer, The Host revolves around a woman named Melanie (Ronan) whose body is possessed by an alien parasite named Wanderer. Ian is a human who initially attacks Wanderer, but eventually falls in love with her. The other major mail character, that of Melanie’s boyfriend Jared, is still being cast; Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), Jai Courtney (One Shot), and Max Irons (Red Riding Hood) are among the contenders for that part. After the jump, Taken 2 adds another newcomer and Rose McGowan gets some company in Napa.

Angelina Jolie, the writer/director, is already seeing what life is like on the other side of the camera. The world’s most famous actress is currently directing her feature film debut, an untitled love story about a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman who get separated during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War during which 100,000 people were killed. The film stars Rade Šerbedžija and Zana Marjanovic and Jolie was even able to get her significant other, Brad Pitt, to do a cameo.
Jolie had planned on shooting several scenes in Bosnia but had to cut the number of days down significantly when rumors broke out that the film was actually about a rape victim falling in love with her rapist. That rumor set off protests from woman’s organizations who were unhappy with the content and, though the rumors proved untrue, the production decided to move from Bosnia to Budapest.
