Whenever the filmmaker is promoting a new movie, there are two projects he’s always going to be asked about — 28 Months Later and the Trainspotting 2. Both films have been kicking around for a long time now. Now Boyle has mentioned the possible Transpotting sequel title. We might actually see this sequel, once again starring Ewan McGregor as a heroin addict, sooner than we expected.

For a long time now, Trainspotting director Danny Boyle has wanted to bring the cast of that film back together to make a new film, based on Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh‘s novel Porno. The idea is to pick up with the surviving Trainspotting characters ten years on, and Boyle has discussed his desire to make the film when the actors have aged appropriately. (Allowing that actors are perhaps better taken care of than their characters in the film, he needed a more significant interval than a single decade.)

Now, as Boyle’s new film Trance is about to be released, he says that he thinks he can get the Trainspotting cast back together to shoot the film in 2016. Read More »

Lot of small sequel rumblings and rumors are flying about, so let’s kick things off with one of the few bits that has a substantiated quote. Speaking to MovieMikes, Ernie Hudson says that Bill Murray is part of the holdup around Ghostbusters 3. “I know he really cares about his work,” the actor says, “which is probably why there hasn’t been another Ghostbusters as of yet. Dan and Harold are working on the script. If it happens we will see but Bill has been the hold up. His definition of good is a little bit different than everybody else’s.”

Fortunately, the balance of his work over the past few years (even factoring in stinkers like Garfield and Passion Play) Bill Murray’s definition of ‘good’ is pretty much…good. I’ll take a Bill Murray failure like City of Ember over Year One.

After the break, news and rumors on the long-rumored Trainspotting sequel, the Alien prequel(s) and Scream 4. Read More »

Ever since he owned the screen in Trainspotting, Robert Carlyle has been a favorite actor for a lot of us. But matching a role and performance like the psychopathic Francis Begbie is difficult, so it’s no surprise to hear that the actor would jump at the chance to revisit it. While that still seems like a distant possibility, Carlyle is talking it up anyway. In addition, he is featured in a five-minute commercial for Johnnie Walker whiskey, and his one-take recitation of the brand’s history is definitely worth a look. Read More »

Danny Boyle talks Trainspotting Sequel, Porno

Porno BookIt’s been 11 years since Trainspotting burst onto the scene. Scottish writer Irvine Welsh’s sequel titled Porno was released five years back. So will Sunshine director Danny Boyle ever get around to making the movie?

“That’s the thing. We’ve been given the rights to do the sequel to it, and there is a script – a very early script from John Hodge, the writer of the first one. And we got the idea of doing it, but it depends on [the actors] being quite a bit older than they are at the moment. They need to have a bit of age,” admitted the director to IGN. “Our take on it is, their headiness – these guys who lived at the absolute brink, felt they were invincible and felt they could abuse themselves to the absolute limit – suddenly hit middle age. They’re in their forties and they look it – but they don’t really look it, those actors, yet. They’re a bit moisturised up and looked after. So when they get a bit older, we’ll have a go at sassing it up a bit, yeah.”

Trainspotting starred Ewan McGregor (now age 35), Ewen Bremner (35), Jonny Lee Miller (34), Kevin McKidd (33), Robert Carlyle (45) and Kelly Macdonald (31).

Porno follows the characters of Trainspotting nine years after the events of the earlier book, as their paths cross again in, this time the pornography business being the backdrop rather than heroin use.  The novel is divided into 3 sections, each of which comprises chapters with different narrators. Unlike Trainspotting which had more narrational diversity, Porno is reduced to just 5 narrators: Sick Boy, Renton, Spud, Begbie and Nikki.

If Boyle decides to make it, let’s hope he does it soon.
