It’s been a big 24 hours for animated spinoffs about adorable groups of tiny, often incompetent helpers. Last night we got our first Minions trailer, and today we have the last Penguins of Madagascar trailer.
The action adventure sees Skipper (Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Chris Miller), Rico (John DiMaggio), and Private (Christopher Knights) facing a threat from Dr. Octavius Brine (voiced by John Malkovich), an octopus with ties to the penguins’ past. In order to take him down, they join forces with an elite organization called the North Wind, led by the cranky, no-nonsense Agent Classified (voiced by notable penguin mispronouncer Benedict Cumberbatch).

It only took “three movies, ten video games, and 80 television episodes” by one director’s count, but the scene-stealing penguins from Madagascar are finally getting their own movie this fall. And based on what we saw at DreamWorks Animation’s Penguins of Madagascar Comic-Con panel on Thursday, they certainly deserve it.
Directors Eric Darnell and Simon J. Smith and star/producer Tom McGrath were on hand to present twenty minutes of never-before-seen footage from the animated adventure, while stars John Malkovich and Benedict Cumberbatch helped crank up the excitement just by being their charming selves. Hit the jump to get the panel highlights including recaps of the footage.
[Update: A new clip and a new poster have just hit the web — check ’em out after the jump.]
All you really need to know about The Penguins of Madagascar is that, in the film, Benedict Cumberbatch voices a wolf. Not just any wolf, mind you, but the leader of a task force that helps animals. But when he runs up agains the four goofy penguins from the Madagascar films, who are now starring in their own action/comedy film, he may have more than he can deal with. Check out what happens in The Penguins of Madagascar trailer, below. Read More »
