Now that the Doug Liman-directed version of The Three Musketeers from Warner Bros. has been well and truly back-burnered, there’s nothing to stand in the way of world domination for Paul WS Anderson’s 3D action-adventure adaptation of the same material. As an opening attack, the first images from Anderson’s film have appeared online.

Above, that’s Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort, and after the break you can see Logan Lerman as D’Artagnan and Paul WS Anderson himself in their own photos. Read More »

The Best and Worst of Comic-Con 2010

Comic-Con 2010 is over, and I’m still reeling from the experience. Just like last year, the entire event was a whirlwind with insane crowds, a healthy dose of line waiting, and some unexpected bits of awesome. By the time it was over, I was more than ready to go home. But I know for a fact that in a week or two I’ll be screaming “We have to go back!” — while disheveled and inexplicably bearded.

At some point this week, the entire /Film crew will record their overall thoughts of the event on a special episode of the /Filmcast. But for now, here are my personal picks for the best and worst of Comic-Con 2010. (Fair warning: I didn’t include some major panels [see: Marvel stuff] that failed to get me excited. If you liked those panels, and others I didn’t mention let us know in the comments.)

Paul WS Anderson Directing Buck Rogers 3D

anderson-buck-rogers

Remember when Frank Miller was set to direct a new Buck Rogers film? Then remember when The Spirit arrived, was a shambling mess, and tanked, after which news on the Frank Miller / Buck Rogers front went quiet really fast?

Well, a Buck Rogers revival is still in the cards, and I’ll let you make the call about whether the new director is more or less likely to do it justice than Miller. Paul WS Anderson (Resident Evil, Death Race) has signed to direct the film. Read More »

The Three Musketeers

Paul W.S. Anderson will direct a new adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s Les Trois Mousquetaires, aka The Three Musketeers. Anderson co-wrote the screenplay (read: run, run far away…) with Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones’s Diary, The Tailor of Panama), and plans to shoot the film in, wait for it… 3-D. UGH! If you’re not yet disgusted, please read on.

LOL: Hack Directors Venn Diagram

zz5670fd92

Something that I came across a couple weeks ago and I’ve been meaning to post on the site is this wonderful Hack Directors Venn Diagram from MadAtoms. While I don’t necessarily agree with all of the selections, or reasonings (for example, attempt at style is counter intuitive to the dictionary definition of “hack”), I do think it’s both clever and funny. I’m not sure why Adam Shankman is getting picked on for not being funny when there are better examples of “Isn’t Funny But Makes Comedies” like Tyler Perry. And it is very fitting that Brett Ratner ended up in the center of the diagram.
