This is a really terrific trailer. We’ve seen a few other trailers for Richard Ayoade‘s second film as a director, The Double, and the last one we highlighted made the film’s comic personality pretty apparent. But this new trailer really pushes the combination of comedy and an underlying sense of weird unease.
Jesse Eisenberg plays Simon, a regular timid guy whose company hires James, a new worker who looks exactly like Simon. The new guy may look just like Simon but he’s everything the shy guy is not: confident, insistent, and charming. That leads to an inevitable conflict, but this trailer suggests it doesn’t play out as you expect it might. Read More »

In Honour, Paddy Considine plays a man who kills for money, and who finds himself with a particularly unpleasant job. The title is related to honor killings, as the film is about a young Muslim woman, played by Aiysha Hart, whose boyfriend (Nikesh Patel) is so unacceptable to her family that they order her murder. (That’s right, the target is not on the boyfriend, but the daughter.) Things don’t go well, and Considine finds himself on the trail of the young woman as she flees.

We Americans cheered when Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End got bumped up from October to August, but our cousins across the pond are even luckier — they’ll get to see the film in just a few more days, on July 19. Thanks to that earlier UK date, the first reviews have already hit the web.
That the film is drawing raves won’t surprise any fans of Wright’s work. What’s more interesting is that this new film sounds a bit different from previous installments of the Cornetto Trilogy, in that the laughs and action come with a bittersweet tinge. Get the early buzz (well, early for us) after the jump.

If the world must end — and film after film lately suggests it must – there are worse ways to go than with a frosty pint and some good company. It’s lucky for the gang at the center of Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End, then, that they’re already in the middle of an epic pub crawl when they learn that humankind may not be long for this world.
The new set of posters for the film celebrate both the characters and the bars they visit, by assigning clever pub-themed identities to each member of the group (specifically Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Marsan, and Paddy Considine). Check ‘em out after the jump. Read More »
Here’s the second trailer (well, the first US one) for Edgar Wright‘s new film The World’s End. Five friends (played by Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, and Eddie Marsan) reunite to complete the epic bar crawl they never manage to finish twenty years ago. But things are different, and it isn’t just because they’re older, and (probably not) wiser. There’s something genuinely wrong in their old hometown.
As it turns out, the town has been taken over by… well, just watch the trailer. Rosamund Pike also has a big role in the film that caps off the (very) loose trilogy of films that began with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. This trailer suggests that The World’s End has the same zing as those two films, but with a hell of a lot more going on in the effects department. Wright doesn’t need the effects, because he can make something lively and entertaining with just two people sitting in an empty room, but it does look like he’s having a grand time with the action. The second trailer for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End will hit the Web on Wednesday. In anticipation of that event, two new posters have been released. One is another UK banner and the second is our first US one-sheet. Each are similar in that they show Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan mugging for the camera, but now Rosamund Pike‘s character has joined the group. And Pegg is raising a pint, tying in the drinking element, leading to the new tag line ”Barmageddon Begins.”
There’s even a tease of the film’s villains: human citizens with lit-up eyes suggesting they’ve been taken over by some kind of alien force. We’ll likely know more about them on Wednesday. For now, check out the two new posters and read a Q&A Wright did where he reveals a bunch of tidbits about the film. Read More »
With Shaun of the Dead, writers Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg played within the zombie genre. In Hot Fuzz they tackled action films. Later this year, they will conclude their trilogy of genre-blending comedies with The World’s End. It’s a film that has been a topic of discussion for years. Now, finally, we have our first glimpse of how Wright, Pegg, and co-star Nick Frost plan on tying everything together.
The World’s End is a sci-fi comedy that sees five friends (Pegg, Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan) return to their old hometown to drink their way through twelve bars. When they arrive, though, things are a bit more like Invasion of the Body Snatchers than Animal House, and fate of the universe is at stake.
Directed and co-written by Wright, The World’s End opens July 19 in the United Kingdom and August 23 in the United States. Check out the international teaser trailer below. Read More »
