I went into The Final Girls at SXSW this year having no idea what to expect from the horror/comedy Todd Strauss-Schulson. What I saw was a very funny comedy that has a good take on the tropes of slasher films, but also a movie that has a really effective core about dealing with difficult family trauma. The cast is led by Taissa Farmiga, Malin Akerman, and Nina Dobrev, with Alexander Ludwig, Alia Shawkat, Thomas Middleditch, and Adam Devine in major roles. Check out The Final Girls trailer here. In Let’s Be Cops, two friends discover a new (and highly illegal) way to get attention from the opposite sex. Two friends, one a douche and the other kind of a dork, dress up as cops for a costume party. They find, however, that people think they’re actually cops. And the reaction is pretty positive — especially from women who like a guy in uniform. And then things get messy. This new Let’s Be Cops red-band trailer shows how a couple real cops mistake the guys for officers, and the two dudes end up trying to solve an actual crime.
Luke Greenfield directed Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson in the lead roles, while Rob Riggle, Nina Dobrev, James D’Arcy and Andy Garcia round out the cast. Watch the new trailer below. Read More »
There was a moment where it looked like Emma Watson might not do much acting at all after the Harry Potter series ended, but she quickly shot a small part in My Week With Marilyn (now in post-production) and then took a role in the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, opposite Logan Lerman. That film is shooting now, and the young Mr. Lerman has sent out a few sneaky first looks at the film via Twitter. That’s a cropped look at one of them, above, and you can see a more full image after the break, along with a couple other images of the cast. Read More »
Summit is pinning some hopes on Stephen Chbosky‘s adaptation of his own novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The project has been waiting for Emma Watson to be finished with Harry Potter so she can play a lead role, and also has Logan Lerman, Mae Whitman and Paul Rudd in the cast. (Logan Lerman is the titular wallflower.) Now Nina Dobrev is going to jump into the cast from The Vampire Diaries as a character named Candace. [Deadline]
