In the decade or so since the start of Fox’s Ice Age series, the franchise has pulled in a range of high-profile stars including Jack Black, Will Arnett, Jay Leno, and Simon Pegg to compliment its central quartet of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Chris Wedge.
This time around, for Steve Martino and Michael Thurmeier‘s Ice Age: Continental Drift, the core characters are joined by the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Nick Frost, Rebel Wilson, Aziz Ansari, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, and more. Since the run-up to the release of Blue Sky Studios’ Ice Age in 2002, the best spokesman — spokesanimal? — for the film series has been a creature that can barely speak. The acorn-obsessed Scrat, a sabre-toothed squirrel, has starred in trailers and shorts and is one of the most consistently entertaining parts of the actual films. With the latest film in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift, hitting theaters in July 2012, Fox and Blue Sky are way ahead of the curve in getting the word out. Paramount Pictures has released a new international movie trailer for the Peter Jackson-produced Steven Spielberg-directed performance capture animated adaptation of The Adventures of Tintin. If you were skeptical after the initial teaser trailer, this full length preview might just win you over. Its great to actually see more action this time around. It’s been three years since Steven Spielberg last had a film in theaters bearing his credit as director. This year, however, we get two: the WWI stage play adaptation War Horse, opening on December 28, and the long-in-development The Adventures of Tintin, which hits Europe in little over a month and will play in the US beginning on December 23.
Both these films have had a low profile so far, at least in the US. There’s just one trailer for War Horse, for example. The film nerd crowd has been all over Tintin because of the fact that it represents a union between Spielberg, Peter Jackson and WETA, but even with that in mind I feel like US audiences are relatively ignorant of the film. A few preview rolls of footage have been shown at conventions and press events, but there’s a lot of audience awareness left to raise.

Attack the Block‘s theatrical run is almost at an end, but fear not — you’ll be able to watch it from the comfort of your own home soon enough. The “cult classic in the making” will hit shelves October 25 on Blu-ray and DVD. Whether you missed it the first time around or just really loved it and want to see it again and again, it’s worth checking out on disc. Though the film is small in scope, it crams more action, laughs, and intelligence into a lean 88 minutes than many films do in 120. There’s a reason it’s become a /Film favorite over the past few months.
Written and directed by Joe Cornish and executive produced by Edgar Wright, the film revolves around a south London street gang who must defend their housing complex when it comes under attack by terrifying monsters from outer space. The immensely talented John Boyega plays the tough, stoic leader of the group; Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, and Luke Treadaway co-star. Ben Wheatley‘s second film, Kill List, is becoming quite a conversation piece as it makes the rounds of a couple festivals. The film is described as a blend of domestic drama, hired-killer thriller and mystical horror that works in a surprising and sometimes very visceral manner. (Check out trailers here and here.) The director (who also did Down Terrace) is using the Kill List momentum to set up a few other projects. One of them, Sightseers, is a dark comedy that will be exec produced by Edgar Wright. Such is the case here, as we’ve got info on a wild reality-based political thriller set in 1979, an animated sequel, and an indie family drama with a very unlikely cast. Here’s the first full-length trailer for The Adventures of Tintin, which Steven Spielberg directed as a mo-cap animated adaptation of one of Herge‘s classic Tintin tomes. This is our first good look at the action and adventure promised by the title and poster, and our best look yet at the animation, produced by Peter Jackson and enabled by WETA. Jamie Bell plays Tintin, who finds a replica of the ship Unicorn, and is led to treasure and danger. Andy Serkis plays his cohort Captain Haddock, while Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play the bumbling detectives Thompson and Thompson. This trailer gives a quick look at the villain Red Rackham (Daniel Craig) as it gives off the same sort of old-school adventure vibe that Steven Spielberg once captured so well in the first Indiana Jones films.
