The Die Hard 5 news continues Thursday. We recently learned that the film, directed by John Moore, would be called A Good Day To Die Hard and released February 14, 2013. It’ll focus on John McClane, once again played by Bruce Willis, heading to Russia to get his son out of prison which then escalates into some kind of massive terrorist threat. With the McClane’s son seemingly the second lead and possible torch-bearer for the franchise, it surely will be a sought after role.

For his third film, French genre director Xavier Gens has locked a bunch of New Yorkers in the basement of a building as they wait out the end of the world. But it turns out these people aren’t the only survivors, and interactions with people who didn’t make it to shelter set off a chain of events that probably won’t end well.

The film is The Divide, and those who’ve seen Gens’ first film, Frontier(s), will immediately recognize some common energy and tension. Anchor Bay has released the first full trailer for the film. It builds on the teaser we saw months ago, beginning with more or less the same setup before moving into a montage of action that suggests things get pretty crazy as this group awaits rescue. Check it out below. Read More »

Susan Sarandon Cast in ‘I Hate You, Dad’

Briefly: Adam Sandler is going to play dad to SNL’s Andy Samberg in I Hate You, Dad, and now the same movie is going to see him eventually shacked up with hot teacher Mary McGarricle, played by Susan Sarandon. Sean Anders and John Morris are directing the film, which is about ” a father (Sandler) who moves in on the eve of the wedding of his son (Samberg) and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be.” A few more details are after the break. One of the films premiering in the Midnighters section of SXSW this weekend is Xavier GensThe Divide, about a group of eight strangers who find shelter in a basement when a huge explosion demolishes New York. It’s a fun premise for a psychological thriller, if not exactly an original one, and the first teaser had me curious see how the film would turn out. I still have no idea, of course. But the first 97 seconds of the film have just been released, and so far, it’s looking good. Watch it after the jump.

Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Anna Kendrick, Milo Ventimiglia and a few other actors were photographed leaving the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip on Tuesday morning. The restaurant is famous for its karaoke, crazy parties and a mechanical bull. Some gossip sites were quick to report that it was a four-hour Scientology event, since a good selection of the actors involved are Scientologists. But it was later confirmed to be a table read for a movie called Paper Wings, which is being developed at Smith’s company Overbrook Entertainment.

Armored Movie Trailer 2

Armored

Screen Gems has released a second trailer for the action-thriller Armored. This film looks like one of those middle of the road action movies you don’t hear about before or after it hits theaters – it just seems to float in and out of existence. But since director Nimrod Antal is signed up to direct Predators, the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predator reboot for 20th Century Fox, everyone is taking a bit more notice.

The film tells the story of “a crew of officers at an armored transport security firm risk their lives when they embark on the ultimate heist….against their own company. Armed with a seemingly fool-proof plan, the men plan on making off with a fortune with harm to none. But when an unexpected witness interferes, the plan quickly unravels and all bets are off.” Starring Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne, Skeet Ulrich, Amaury Nolasco, Andre Jamal Kinney, Milo Ventimiglia, Fred Ward and Columbus Short. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

MGM Wants More Rocky Sequels?

Rocky Balboa

During a presentation at the Cannes Film Festival, MGM chairperson Mary Parent mentioned that the company is toying around with the possibility of making more Rocky films. Parent’s big buzzword of the presentation was “franchise”. And she believes Rocky Balboa might have some more fight in him before he calls it quits for good.

Why? Why! WHY!?! Doesn’t MGM understand that Rocky Balboa was the perfect conclusion to the series? Usually I’m more than willing to give a heartfelt sequel a chance, but the idea is just ridiculous. Hopefully Sylvester Stallone won’t be baited by a cash grab. On the other hand I wouldn’t be against a Rocky spin-off starring Rocky’s son Robert Jr. (played in Rocky Balboa by Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia). But even then I’m not sure what they would hope to accomplish.
