Woody Allen announced today the full cast for his upcoming film production Midnight in Paris. The film stars, in alphabetical order: Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Michael Sheen, Owen Wilson, and co-stars Nina Arianda, Kurt Fuller, Tom Hiddleston, Mimi Kennedy, Alison Pill and Corey Stoll. Adrien Brody has joined the cast of Midnight in Paris, the upcoming Woody Allen movie with a title that now, sadly, sounds far too much like a sex tape. As is so often the case with Allen, the cast is becoming quite impressive: it already featured Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, Michael Sheen and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.
Allen recently said “the film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.” Brody’s role is said to be ‘flashy.’ [THR]

Playwright/screenwriter Peter Morgan and actor Michael Sheen have teamed for two films featuring former British Prime Minister Tony Blair: The Deal and The Queen. Their third project together is The Special Relationship, which chronicles the working relationship between Blair and Bill Clinton in the late ’90s. The photo above is the first look at Dennis Quaid in costume as Clinton. It’s not as eerily convincing as Josh Brolin was as George W. Bush in W., but Quaid looks fine.
Morgan’s script is directed by Richard Loncraine (Richard III) with Helen McRory and Mark Bazeley reprising their roles from The Queen. Hope Davis appears as Hilary Clinton. [Dark Horizons]

Disney has released a third trailer for Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland, which is scheduled to be projected in 3D in front of prints of James Cameron’s Avatar. The trailer gives us a glimpse at some of the characters that have been, until now, kept in the background or off screen. There are so many wonderful visuals in this trailer, that I’ve compiled a collection of 40 screenshots so that you can see everything (click here to see the gallery). Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers?

The one name I will always remember from the trip I took to Ireland in 2002 is Roy Keane. Part of Ireland’s soccer team, he caused quite a kerfuffle when he spoke out about Irish players being treated unfairly during their run for the 2002 World Cup. It led newscasts, it was on every paper and it was the subject people most wanted talk about. I learned a lot about football/soccer on that holiday as I saw people’s home adorned in green, white, and orange bunting as if Christmas really was coming in June.

Sheen has started to explode into high-profile films, and while he’s been stuck in the Underworld films and now the Twilight series, he’s also impressed us in Frost/Nixon and The Queen. Walt Disney Pictures has released the first promotional photos from Tim Burton‘s 3D re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland. Above you can see the first official photos of Johnny Depp as a freakish-looking Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen (“Off With Their Heads”), and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, looking very pale.
