Here’s the big reveal of all the secrets Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have hidden within the new Superman film, Man of Steel. Days ago we saw a grainy video broadcast featuring the villain General Zod (Michael Shannon) and his demand for humanity to hand over Kal-El / Superman (Henry Cavill). Now this new trailer shows not only what happens when Zod’s plan doesn’t go off in quite the way he hopes, but who Superman is and what makes him tick. Thankfully, all of that results in a lot more action. Read More »

Man of Steel - Michael Shannon as General Zod

This is the week Man of Steel takes off like a speeding bullet. There’s a new trailer expected, we already saw some new images, and a viral campaign has kicked off too. General Zod (Michael Shannon) taunts Kal-El (Henry Cavill) in a new, static filled video, filled with the kind of sadistic intensity reminscent of The Joker’s videos in The Dark Knight. Check it out below. Read More »

Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel has begun to screen and word is that it’s fantastic. We’d heard that executives at Warner Bros. truly loved the film and now, reports are coming in from other people too. (And from people who don’t have billions and billions of dollars potentially invested in the success of a rebooted Superman.)

In particular, JoBlo is reporting the film is nearly complete (save for the 3D conversion) and despite the somber tone the trailers suggest, the film is chock full of action. We’ll talk more specifics below. Read More »

While it makes sense that the marketing for Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel would focus heavily on the Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) himself, it’s had the effect of playing down the other characters. No doubt General Zod (Michael Shannon) and Jor-El (Russell Crowe) play important roles in Superman’s journey, but we’ve barely gotten more than a glimpse of them in all the footage and stills so far.

Fortunately, any comic book movie this big also comes with a slew of merchandising tie-ins, which can shed light on some of the other aspects of the film. DC unveiled their new line of Man of Steel figures at the Toy Fair in New York this past weekend. Among the 12″ figures rolled out were Jor-El and Zod in full battle armor, along with Zod’s right-hand woman Faora (Antje Traue). Take a look after the jump.

Over a decade after it kicked into gear with X-Men and Spider-Man, the superhero movie trend shows no signs of flagging. Costumed heroes will keep going strong in 2013 with several more high-profile releases, including Man of Steel, Kick-Ass 2, The Wolverine, and Thor: The Dark World. While we’ve haven’t seen trailers for most of them so far (Man of Steel excepted) the latest issue of Empire Magazine offers a little taste of each movie with some new images.

Check them out after the jump.

With the releases of Bernie, Magic Mike, and Killer Joe, 2012 may very well have been the best year of Matthew McConaughey‘s career. And don’t expect to see that momentum flag in 2013. McConaughey is starting the year off with Mud, a coming-of-age tale directed by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter).

The Tree of Life actor Tye Sheridan and newcomer Jacob Lofland play a pair of friends who come across a mysterious man named Mud (McConaughey) hiding out in the woods along the Mississippi. While he soon admits that he’s on the run for killing a man, they’re charmed by his romantic tales and agree to help him out. Their boyish adventure takes a sour turn, however, when Mud’s real problems entangle them in some very adult complications. Watch the trailer after the jump.

After the dual disappointments of Killing Me Softly and Gangster Squad, I’m feeling a little burned out on mob movies at the moment. So maybe it’s just my mood that has me unimpressed with the new trailer for The Iceman. On the one hand, director Ariel Vromen seems to have a flair for visuals, the cast looks strong, and the fact-based premise is intriguing. On the other, it all looks so tiresomely familiar.

Michael Shannon stars as real-life hitman Richard Kuklinski, who allegedly racked up over 100 kills over a four-decade career. He makes good money whacking people for gangster Roy Demeo (genre staple Ray Liotta), until an incident involving Demeo’s underling (David Schwimmer) forces Kuklinski out of their operation. He then teams up with freelance killer Robert Pronge (Chris Evans), which comes with its own complications. Winona Ryder also stars, as Kuklinski’s oblivious wife. Watch the new trailer after the jump.
