CHiPs Trailer - Michael Pena and Dax Shepard

The more we see TV shows like Baywatch and CHIPs turned into movies, the more realization sets in that the success of 21 Jump Street as a quality comedy was a small miracle.

While Baywatch doesn’t look bad, it just seems to be trying too hard to have the same blend of R-rated comedy and action that directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller delivered wonderfully with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. And now we have the first CHIPs trailer, revealing Dax Shepard (who also directs the comedy) and Michael Peña as unlikely partners in the California Highway Patrol. And if Baywatch is trying to be 21 Jump Street, than CHIPs is trying even harder to be its cool PG-13 cousin.

war on everyone trailer

Michael Peña’s only 2016 release was Collateral Beauty. Alexander Skarsgård had Zoolander 2 and Legend of Tarzan. Needless to say, this has not been a great year for them. Thankfully, their 2017 already looks way more promising, thanks to the upcoming release of War on Everyone.

Directed by John Michael McDonagh (Calvary, The Guard), this dark comedy stars Peña and Skarsgård as a pair of cops working in New Mexico. But don’t assume they’re the good guys — this pair is so crooked, even the criminals they deal with seem taken aback. When they get mixed up with a strip club manager (Caleb Landry Jones) and his even shadier boss (Theo James), they realize they may be in deeper than they’d intended. Tessa Thompson also stars. Check out the War on Everyone trailer below.  Read More »

Perhaps delivering the uplifting boost we all need this holiday season, a new trailer for the seemingly fantastical drama Collateral Beauty has arrived.

Will Smith stars in the film as a man who has lost all hope after losing his daughter. As a way of coping with his depression, he writes letters to Time, Death and Love. Murder on the Orient Express casting / Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars The Force Awakens

Director Kenneth Branagh seemed to have his work cut out for him when it came to casting his Murder on the Orient Express remake. Sidney Lumet’s 1974 version was a star-studded affair, featuring Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Sean Connery, Anthony Perkins, and Vanessa Redgrave. Could any new cast in 2016 possibly compare?

Well, we won’t know for sure until the new film opens in theaters, but it does seem to be off to a great start in terms of star power. Branagh himself is leading the Agatha Christie adaptation as detective Hercule Poirot, and yesterday we learned Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer had also hopped on board. Today, a new report adds several more big names to the passenger list including Daisy RidleyJudi DenchMichael Peña, and Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. Find out who’s playing whom below. Read More »

Collateral Beauty Trailer - Will Smith

Even though Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will undoubtedly dominate the box office when it hits theaters in December, there’s at least one film that’s bold enough to go up against the franchise spin-off on opening weekend.

Collateral Beauty stars Will Smith as a dejected man named Howard who has lost the flare of life he used to have before his daughter died. As a form of therapy, Smith begins writing letters to Time, Love and Death, and one day he gets a surprise when one of them actually shows up to talk to him. Michael Pena in Ant-Man 2

Last summer, Marvel Studios brought Ant-Man to the big screen, and the tiny superhero turned out to be a big hit, changing the pace by being a smaller, more isolated comic book flick. It has been particularly refreshing after The Avengers: Age of Ultron ended up being a little too big for its britches, and the film’s success resulted in Marvel quickly changing up their schedule to allow for a sequel called Ant-Man and The Wasp to land a spot on the calendar in 2018.

Since we’re a couple of years out from the film’s set release, Marvel is making more moves to fill out the cast by bringing back one of the most entertaining parts of the film: Michael Pena.

war on everyone trailer

I like to imagine Martin McDonagh and John Michael McDonagh in a constant state of sibling rivalry, with each brother looking to top the other with every project. Martin wrote the masterful stage play The Pillowman (among others) before making one of the best crime comedies of the past decade with In Bruges. John made a strong directorial debut with 2011’s pitch-black buddy cop comedy The Guard and topped himself with 2014’s Calvary. I’ve reached the point where any movie bearing the McDonagh name feels like a priority.

And that makes John Michael McDonagh’s new film, War On Everyone, a priority. The new trailer is all the evidence to I need to know that yes, his distinctive, cynical, and hilarious voice is still ringing loud and clear.

Ninjago

Following the smashing success of 2014’s The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. has been building up its Lego movie franchise brick by brick. Next up will be The Lego Batman Movie, out in February, but after that comes Ninjago. That one will be based on Lego’s Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu line of toys, which already has its own video game and TV series. Development has been pretty quiet so far, but expect to hear more and more as its 2017 release date inches closer.

Today, for example, we have the Ninjago voice cast list to share with you. And it’s good news if you like to laugh. Jackie Chan will lead as Master Wu, and the others include two Silicon Valley stars, one-half of the Broad City duo, a Saturday Night Live alum, and more.  Read More »

War on Everyone trailer

In a few weeks we’ll see Alexander Skarsgård as king of the jungle in The Legend of Tarzan, but later this year he’ll get in touch with his wild side in an entirely different way. Directed by John Michael McDonagh (The GuardCalvary), War on Everyone stars Skarsgård and Michael Peña as two very corrupt cops who get in over their heads in New Mexico. If Shane Black’s The Nice Guys left you wanting more in the “pitch-black buddy action-comedy” subgenre, War on Everyone should have you covered.

War on Everyone hit Berlin and SXSW earlier this year to strong reviews, and now it’s gearing up for a theatrical release in the U.K. (No U.S. release date has been announced yet, alas.) As smuch, the first War on Everyone red-band trailer has just arrived, and you can watch it after the jump.  Read More »
