You might have forgotten that there is a new Silent Hill film that went into production last year, and has been in the editing room in recent weeks. Seems like the movie comes up every once in a while, then news on it goes quiet for months at a time.
But with a relatively well-received new Silent Hill game on shelves (I liked it OK, anyway) and an anthology of remastered classic chapters from the series also arriving, this is probably the best time to make a deal to distribute the new movie. The characters of Robert E Howard have taken a surprisingly long time to get to the screen. Only Conan has really made a splash, and even that character hasn’t had the continual screen presence you might expect. But the independent production Solomon Kane, directed by Michael J Bassett and starring James Purefoy as Kane, could help bring Howard back to theatres. Bassett and Purefoy, along with producer Samuel Hadida, brought Kane to Hall H, where they showed off an exclusive trailer and three long clips from the film. Read More »

Judging from some of the comments on his blog of late, it seems a distinct possibility that Michael J. Bassett is one of the “about seven” directors under discussion for the directing job on Predators. The comments were sniffed out by the good burghers of Quiet Earth, who surmised in them a connection to the Robert Rodriguez-produced sci-fi sequel.
