The Strain, the vampire novel co-authored by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan that birthed a series of books, is going to be a series on FX, with del Toro scripting and directing the pilot. As the show movies forward, Carlton Cuse will act as show runner working with a cast that includes Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, and Kevin Durand.
(Actually, the original idea for The Strain was meant for a TV show, but del Toro ended up taking it to the page first, and now it has worked its way back to television.)
The first teaser for the show aired this past weekend during The Walking Dead, but if you weren’t tuned in for that mid-series finale, check out the teaser spot below. Even if you were tuned in, you might not have realized what the strange spot was, as there’s really no indication that it is for The Strain. Read More »

Adam Brody‘s certainly come a long way from his days playing geeky misfit Seth Cohen on The O.C. Earlier this week, news broke that Kristen Bell had signed on to play one of his ex-girlfriends in Jennifer Getzinger‘s Some Girls, adapted by Neil LaBute from his own play. Scarlett Johansson may seem like an unlikely lead for a Judd Apatow film, but in this context her casting actually makes a lot of sense. Johansson has signed on to star in Can a Song Save Your Life?, which will be written and directed by John Carney (Once) and produced by Apatow. The film follows “a washed-up A&R man who forms a passionate bond with a young singer-songwriter (Johansson) from out of town.”
The project calls for Johansson to sing, which shouldn’t be a problem for the actress. Johansson is in fact a professional singer, having released an album of Tom Waits covers titled Anywhere I Lay My Head back in 2008 and a collaboration with Pete Yorn called Break Up in 2009. Though the male lead has yet to be cast, Mark Ruffalo and Jim Carrey have been rumored as possibilities. (FWIW, I vote Ruffalo.) Shooting on the film will begin in New York City next year. After the jump, new gigs for the stars of Twilight, Wizards of Waverly Place, and the late-’90s/early-’00s teen alien show Roswell. Gosh, remember that?

Cool Posts From Around the Web:
There’s a batch of Breaking Dawn casting to communicate tonight. One chunk is new info, while the other is from a day back. (We don’t bend over backward to get every bit of Twilight news, as you might understand.) The production now has its Denali Clan in full, with a handful of actors joining the recently cast Maggie Grace in the ‘vegetarian’ vampire clan. And Renesmee, the odd daughter of Edward and Bella, has been cast as well. Read More »
