Several major movies just got moved around by Universal Studios.
Duncan Jones’ Warcraft, which had already been pushed a few months, has moved from March 11, 2016 to June 10, 2016. Pacific Rim 2, directed by Guillermo del Toro, has been moved from April 7, 2017 to August 4, 2017. In addition, the new Mummy film has been moved up from June 24, 2016, to March 24, 2017.
This is after the studio gave us dates for Fast and Furious 8 and the two Fifty Shades sequels. Read more about the Warcraft release date change below. Read More »

Edge of Tomorrow wasn’t the spectacular financial success it might have been, but it was a damn good movie. And so Tom Cruise, who of late has frequently done multiple projects with writers and directors he likes, is setting up an Edge of Tomorrow reunion with director Doug Liman. Their new project is set in the 1980s and is a “drug thriller” called Mena. Read More »
The Black List 2014 has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of over 250 development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2014 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, The Black List is a list of the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven’t heard of yet.

Universal spent $1 million to purchase a spec script this weekend and has already set marquee director Ron Howard to helm it. The script is called Mena and was written by Gary Spinelli. It tells the true story of Barry Seal, a 300-pound pilot who illegally transported guns, drugs and other contraband for both the CIA and multiple drug cartels. (He transported, among many other things, loads of Quaaludes, the now-discontinued depressant used heavily by characters in The Wolf of Wall Street.)
Several studios were interested in the piece, including Sony, but ultimately Universal took home the prize. Read More »
