Sad as I am to see summer go, there is something I’m really looking forward to about the coming months, and that is the advent of the television’s regular season. After a long summer away from my imaginary friends in Pawnee, Greendale, and Lima, I’m eager to check back in and see what the new premieres have to offer. Hit the jump to see:

Breakout star Melissa McCarthy has signed up for ID Theft, which will team her with the ubiquitous but charming Jason Bateman. As suggested by the title, the comedy follows a man who becomes the target of identity theft. Bateman will play the victim, and McCarthy the thief. McCarthy’s role was originally written for a man, but Bateman (who’s also producing) pushed to cast McCarthy in the part after seeing her inspired, scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids.

Shooting for ID Theft will begin April 2012, at the start of McCarthy’s hiatus from Mike & Molly. The script was originally written by Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness), and is currently in rewrites with Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II). [Deadline]

We hate when great comedy shows are killed off prematurely, and love when the possibility arises that they might rise from the grave to take over movie screens. The idea of an Arrested Development movie is something that has generated a surplus of questions and speculation, and that project seems to be slowly (slowly) crawling towards the light.

Party Down is a much more recent cancellation, and still more of a niche show than Arrested Development was. But it may actually be closer to hitting movie screens, as producer Rob Thomas says that a movie deal is in the works. Read More »
