barry pepper knives

Here’s something that slipped under the radar – actor Barry Pepper posted a YouTube video last December in which he showed off his previously unknown blacksmithing ability. What’s more, he used this hobby to craft a knife he personally designed for his character in the upcoming Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

We always knew Pepper was an intense performer ever since his breakout performance in Saving Private Ryan, and he has always managed to play characters that have plenty of use for a knife. This has apparently turned into a bit of a passion project for him, in which he tries to personalize the role by designing items for his characters, either with the aid of the movie’s prop master or by himself in his smithy.

And yes, Pepper does offer a tour of his personal forge in a video that you can watch below.

Maze Runner: The Death Cure Featurette

Last spring, production on Maze Runner: The Death Cure was halted and then postponed indefinitely after lead actor Dylan O’Brien suffered a concussion with a facial fracture and lacerations after a stunt went wrong. Last we heard, production was supposed to resume early this year in order to meet the February 2018 release date recently set by 20th Century Fox, but we’ve had no word of the film shooting again.

For those fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Maze Runner franchise, it sounds like everything is all right because Fox provided a first look at the sequel during the MTV Movie Awards this past weekend. Dylan O’Brien and some of the other cast members show us around the WCKD compound where we get to see a lot of hallways and laboratories.

The Maze Runner 3

In just over a couple weeks, the sequel Maze Runner: Scorch Trials hits theaters, picking up exactly where the first film left off with Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the surviving members of the Gladers escaping the maze and being escorted to “safety” in a helicopter. However, when it comes to the second film leading into The Maze Runner 3, it won’t be the same kind of transition.

In a recent interview, franchise director Wes Ball revealed that Maze Runner: The Death Cure will actually pick up one year after the events of The Scorch Trials, which is quite a departure from the source material. Read More »
