Keanu Calendar - Mad Max: Fury Road

We don’t typically write about movie swag on /Film, although I’ll often tweet about some of the cooler things that get sent to the /Film offices to promote upcoming films and television shows. Today I received a package from Warner Bros. Pictures with swag promoting their upcoming film Keanu, a comedy film movie from Key and Peele. If you haven’t yet watched the trailer for this film, go do so now.

When I opened the box I knew I had to feature it on the site. The box contained a plush of the cat at the center of the film, Keanu, complete with his do-rag and gold chain. But thats not all, Warner Bros. produced a full-size calendar featuring Keanu reenacting scenes from popular movies. That’s the part I really wanted to show you as it’s ridiculous, cute and awesome. Before the Oscars they released a set of movie posters spoofing this year’s Academy Award nominees. This takes it further because they’ve gone to the lengths of elaborate photo shoots, rather than fast and dirty Photoshops. Hit the jump to take a look at some of the Keanu movie parodies featured in this Keanu calendar.

Scott C's Lost in Translation

In July 2014, one of our favorite artists Scott Campbell (aka Scott C) held a scavenger hunt to find his original watercolor Great Showdown paintings in the original filming locations across Los Angeles. This year he returns with The Great Great Showdown Hunt, a bigger and more epic hunt which will take the concept worldwide.

Todays edition takes us to Japan and Australia. Do you live near these cities? You’re going to have to be quick, smart and pop culture-savvy to find these, but if you can, you might be able to get yourself an original Scott C painting.

Editor’s Note: After Turner Classic Movies released their list of the 15 Most Influential Classic Movies, some people were complaining that no films were included from the last 32 years. I joked on Twitter that I would like to see a list of the ten most influential films of the last ten years, and Brendon jumped at the opportunity to create such a list. The idea is to predict what ten films from this decade would be looked at as influential in 20 years. The task is ridiculous, because its hard to predict the long term effects of the films that were released in the last decade (especially ones released in the last couple years), but Brendon did a pretty good job. It should be noted that Brendon’s list is more skewed towards advances in filmmaking and storytelling which influenced and changed the future of cinema, rather than movies that influenced the culture.

influential

Are these the ten most influential films of the last ten years? I think they might just be. Disappointingly, I really don’t like four of them. I’ve also cheated and only included English language films.

The full list will come after the break, and then after that will come the comments section for your contributions.
