Way back in late 2010, we reported on the potential casting of Bradley Cooper in the lead role for David O. Russell‘s The Silver Linings Playbook. At some point, however, Mark Wahlberg emerged as the star of the film, and Cooper was no longer associated with the project. Now, it’s looking like we’re back to square one, with Wahlberg out and Cooper back in. Wahlberg has dropped out of the film due to a scheduling conflict with a different project (possibly Broken City with Allen Huges), and Cooper is currently in talks to replace him.

Also in talks for the movie is Robert De Niro, who met with Russell earlier this summer regarding an unnamed part. Jennifer Lawrence is still set to co-star as the main character’s love interest. Based on a novel by Matthew Quick, the film follows a former high school teacher (that’d be Coopers part) who’s just been released from a four-year stint at a mental institution into the care of his mother. After the jump: Reese Witherspoon teams up with Disney, Alden Ehrenreich joins Stoker, and Doctor Who star Karen Gillan nabs an indie romance.

Watchmen Cast List Confirmed/Announced

WatchmenThe casting for Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel Watchmen has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. But honestly most of the names on the list have been rumored to be attached to the project for months. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is the only name not in our report from last week.  Morgan will play the Comedian, “a cigar-chomping, gun-toting vigilante-turned-paramilitary agent.” Rumored to play the role were Thomas Jane and Ron Pearlman.

Also confirmed: Jackie Earle Haley will play Walter Kovacs aka Rorschach, Billy Crudup will play Dr. Manhattan, Malin Akerman will play Laurie Juspeczyk/the Silk Spectre, Mathew Goode will play Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, and Patrick Wilson will play the Nite-Owl.

I’m still skeptical as to whether or not Watchman can be turned into a relevant and entertaining film, since most of the ideas and concepts have since been stolen and used in other comic books and films. But if there is anyone who can make this film seem revolutionary it could be Snyder. He has a good list of names to back him up in front of the camera. Shooting is set to begin in Vancouver this Fall.

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit down with The Lookout stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode and writer/director Scott Frank to discuss the new film. I apologize for the unusually low quality recording, we had to make due as my professional digital recorder broke during the interview.
