Even movie fans would agree some of the best entertainment made during the past two decades has been on premium cable. Whether it’s HBO shows like The Sopranos, The Wire, Sex and the City and Game of Thrones or Showtime shows like Dexter, Weeds and Homeland, movies are regularaly getting schooled by TV in terms of character, story and scope. Plus, even if you love a movie, it’s only two hours. A great TV show can be hundreds.

And while we’re all very used to seeing art inspired by movies, art inspired by TV always elicits a slightly more excited response which is why the brand new Bottleneck Gallery in Brooklyn, NY has picked premium TV for its first exhibit. More Than You Imagined: Art Inspired By Premium Cable opens September 7 and features work by Mark Englert, Kevin Ang, Brandon Schaefer, Joshua Budich, Tim Doyle and many others.

After the jump, check out a huge gallery of work from shows like all the ones mentioned above as well as The Kids in the Hall, Flight of the Conchords, Tales from the Crypt, Boardwalk Empire, Party Down and others, plus find out how you can see it yourself and see how you can buy a print for charity too. This week’s addition to the Breaking Bad Art Project could almost serve as a crown to all of the previous art. It’s a simple image, but one full of references to the show, depicting the home of Walter, Skyler and Walter Jr. in sunny New Mexico. Mark Englert did the art. Check it out in full after the jump. When it comes to San Diego Comic-Con exclusives, everyone has their poison. Maybe you’re looking for the Mattel and Hasbro toys. Maybe it’s limited edition comic books, or freebies. It’s no secret I’ll be looking for posters and while we have yet to hear what Mondo has in store (though it’s probably going to be huge and you’ll be able to read all about it here very soon) we saw some very cool Con exclusive posters based on TV shows.

Now even Los Angeles pop culture gallery Gallery 1988 is getting in the mix. They’ll have at least three gorgeous exclusives: one based on The Last Starfighter, one based on Alien and the latest Breaking Bad piece. They all rule. Check them out after the jump. Read More »

The Walking Dead is one of the most popular shows on cable TV today, appealing to both genre fans and non-genre fans. It’s got great characters and tension for those who aren’t into gore, and zombie violence for those who are. The show is currently filming its third season (which you can get a glimpse of here) but fans might want to circle the next two Fridays on their calendar too.

Next Friday is the huge San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel and this Friday (as in tomorrow) Mark Englert is going to release this limited edition poster. It is called “This Is My Farm…I’ll Die Here,” inspired by the show’s second season.
