The film Margin Call, essentially sounding like a dramatization of our recent economic crisis, has come together very fast. We first heard about it at Cannes, when sophomore writer/director J.C. Chandor and his producers lined up Kevin Spacey and Zachary Quinto as part of the cast. (Quinto is one of the producers, so he lined himself up, technically speaking.) The Cowboys & Aliens cast keeps getting better and better. Starting with Daniel Craig and Sam Rockwell, then there was the addition of Harrison Ford (I’m praying for a career revival here) with Olivia Wilde and Noah Ringer.

Now director Jon Favreau will also have Paul Dano and Clancy Brown to work with, and Keith Carradine rounds out the cast as the town sheriff. As Cannes kicks into gear we might start hearing about a few new films that have been assembled enough to scour for distribution deals before production. The film has lined up Kevin Spacey and Zachary Quinto to star in a topical tale about banking malfeasance. The story “tracks eight people at a prominent investment bank in a tumultuous 24-hour period during the early stages of the financial crisis” and looks on as they try to come to terms with the impending financial disaster. After the break, Ron Howard’s Cheaters gets new faces, and Jessica Biel romances Vivaldi. Read More »
