Attack the Block‘s theatrical run is almost at an end, but fear not — you’ll be able to watch it from the comfort of your own home soon enough. The “cult classic in the making” will hit shelves October 25 on Blu-ray and DVD. Whether you missed it the first time around or just really loved it and want to see it again and again, it’s worth checking out on disc. Though the film is small in scope, it crams more action, laughs, and intelligence into a lean 88 minutes than many films do in 120. There’s a reason it’s become a /Film favorite over the past few months.
Written and directed by Joe Cornish and executive produced by Edgar Wright, the film revolves around a south London street gang who must defend their housing complex when it comes under attack by terrifying monsters from outer space. The immensely talented John Boyega plays the tough, stoic leader of the group; Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, and Luke Treadaway co-star. Hit the jump for more details on the Blu-ray/DVD, including a picture of the cover.

David Mackenzie‘s first movie of 2011, Perfect Sense, was a cerebral end-of-the-world tale in which Ewan McGregor and Eva Green fell in love as the human race slowly lost its senses. Mackenzie’s second film of the year, You Instead, seems to be in many ways its polar opposite: a lighthearted, energetic story about enjoying the hell out of your senses.
Natalia Tena (Tonks from the Harry Potter franchise) and Luke Treadaway (the scrawny pothead from Attack the Block) star as Morello and Adam, leaders of rival bands who find themselves handcuffed together during Scotland’s T at the Park music festival. Watch the trailer and after the jump.

The ‘aliens invade a South London housing project’ movie Attack the Block has been playing like gangbusters in screenings at SXSW and in LA. The film is scheduled to open in the UK next month, but was without a US distributor. That has changed as Screen Gems just sent out a press release announcing that the company will release the film in the States. Read More »
Coming out of the European Film Market is our first piece of Attack the Block sales art – sampled above but revealed in its entirety and complete with tagline below the break – and an expanded synopsis for Joe Cornish‘s film, “this year’s Shaun of the Dead“. There’s really not much spoiled by the new outline, but if you’re particularly keen to go into this movie knowing as little as possible, you may prefer to stick with the previous, less detailed synopsis, or perhaps just avoid them both outright.
Before we get to the EFM news, though, there’s a couple of other tidbits on the film that we haven’t yet covered – including the first ‘name’ casting.
