With all the fuss about this spring’s The Hunger Games, I’d almost forgotten all about Josh Hutcherson‘s other blockbuster franchise, which began in 2008 with Journey to the Center of the Earth. But Hutcherson hasn’t, of course, and he’ll be reprising his role next month in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Hutcherson plays lead Sean Anderson, who teams up with his stepfather (Dwayne Johnson) to explore the fantastical, heavily CGI-ed wonderland of the title. Also along for the ride are a wacky helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), as well as Sean’s adventurous grandfather (Michael Caine). Watch the new trailer after the jump.

Celebrity Twitter accounts make some first-look reveals pretty easy. I’m surprised it has taken this long for Arnold Schwarzenegger to tweet out a cast photo from his new action movie The Last Stand. And I’ll say this: in this pic at least, he looks the part of an aged lawman who has retreated to a sheriff post in a small down. That’s Jamie Alexander with Arnie in the header pic; see the full image below for a glimpse of Luis Guzman and Johnny Knoxville as well. Read More »

Today Kim Jee-woon (The Good, the Bad, the Weird and I Saw the Devil) begins shooting his English language debut, The Last Stand. The film is notable for being the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to a starring role. Arnie plays a former LAPD officer now working as a small-town sheriff, who has to deal with a drug kingpin who is fleeing to Mexico and will pass right through his town.
The obligatory ‘start of production’ press release is below, complete with the same plot synopsis we’ve had for a while. Along with that is the announcement of a few actors who are part of the film, including Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, and one of my personal faves, Harry Dean Stanton. Read More »

Warner Bros has released a second movie trailer for the remake of Arthur. Russell Brand plays an “irresponsible charmer” named Arthur Bachwho will lose his limitless fortune if he doesn’t accept an arranged marriage. I’m still not sold on two things: 1. The need for this remake and 2. that this movie is funny enough to warrant a $10-$15 movie ticket. The only reason I’m curious to see the film is the involvement of Luis Guzman and the Batman/Robin bit that is teased in the advertising. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump. Please leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Well, it’s about bloody time. Jason Winer‘s remake of the classic Dudley Moore comedy Arthur, starring Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Luis Guzman, Jennifer Garner and others is scheduled for release on April 8 but we hadn’t seen a trailer until now. The film is about a spoiled New York billionaire whose whole life has been set-up for him until he finally stands up to his parents and he’s forced to live without money. We may not want to admit it, but the 2008 3D film Journey to the Center of the Earth was a $100 million hit. So, of course, production just started on the sequel. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island brings back star Josh Hutcherson as he sets out on another adventure. This time, however, Brendan Frasier is nowhere to be found. Instead, he’s been replaced by Dwayne Johnson (already back to family films after Faster and Fast Five) who stars along with Michael Caine, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Kristin Davis. Directed by Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore), the 3D sequel is now shooting in Hawaii before moving to North Carolina. After the break, read the official plot description and check out some set photos. Read More »

A little over a week ago, set photos were leaked online revealing that the Batmobile would be making an appearance in Arthur, the remake of the fan-favorite ’80s comedy. At the time it seemed likely that the car’s presence in the film wouldn’t amount to anything more than a quick gag, but now more set photos have arrived to arouse further speculation.
Looks like it’s not just the Batmobile showing up in the film. Russell Brand and co-star Luis Guzman will also be donning the costumes of Batman and Robin, respectively. Check out the pics after the break.

According to the ever useful Twitter feed of Production Weekly, principal photography on Alexandre Rockwell’s Pete Small is Dead is to kick off in March. Previously, it was set to shoot in January, I believe – but when I tell you other info is thin on the ground for this one, you better believe it.
Indeed, probably the most useful link I could give you is to the MySpace page of Michael Din, the film’s producer. Send him a message and tell him /Film want to know more. Go on. Double dare you.
Amongst the cast are Steve Buscemi, Sam Rockwell and Peter Dinklage, who have worked together on Peter Judson’s Nobody Wants Your Film. Or, perhaps more accurately, they’re all featured in the film – it’s a documentary about how an independent film gets knocked back every step of the way. I think it was a semi-fictionalised grasp for novelty and notoriety, ala The Book that Wrote Itself.
