This second trailer for Thor Freudenthal‘s Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters features a cavalcade of beasties, and also a significant presence from Nathan Fillion, who plays a modernized version of the god Hermes. That’s probably enough to warrant a look from many potential audience members.
Those elements were present in the first trailer, along with plenty of material featuring returning cast (Logan Lerman, Brandon T Jackson, and Alexandra Daddario). But the intent here seems to be to sell the movie as a real spectacle. In that respect it succeeds pretty well. The series still has to truly establish itself as a proper successor to the Harry Potter films — and that may not be possible — but at least it appears to be able to make good on a promise to deliver colorful and dangerous monsters. One of the many YA series to get life on movie screens has been Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The first film in the series, The Lightning Thief, bowed in 2010 and introduced film audiences to the story’s modernized take on classic mythological characters.
Like many YA adaptations outside the Harry Potter and Twilight series, The Lightning Thief didn’t quite wow audiences. Unlike many stillborn series, however, this one is actually getting a sequel. Star Logan Lerman may quickly be aging out of the role, but he’s back for Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, in which Percy, the half-human son of Poseidon, goes after the legendary Golden Fleece.
This chapter features Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson returning to support Lerman’s hero, and we get to see Stanley Tucci as Dionysus. Oh, and Nathan Fillion plays Hermes, which might be enough to get people watching. Read More »

If Girls seems to chalk up Hannah’s bad ideas to her relative youth, the first trailer for Writers suggests such misguidedness may simply be an occupational hazard. In the directorial debut by Josh Boone, Greg Kinnear plays an acclaimed novelist who deals with his divorce by alternately spying on his ex-wife (Jennifer Connelly) and screwing his married neighbor (Kristen Bell).
His kids Samantha (Lily Collins) and Rusty (Nat Wolff) are both budding writers as well, though they take totally opposite approaches to life. She racks up “experiences” in the form of notches on her bedpost, while he pines after a pretty high school classmate (Liana Liberato) with a mean boyfriend. Watch the first trailer after the jump.

Coming off the Oscar-winning Black Swan, director Darren Aronofsky could have done anything, so after dropping The Wolverine, he decided to build an ark. He’s currently shooting Noah, the Biblical tale of a man who builds an ark to save life on Earth after receiving a message from God. Russell Crowe plays the title role but he’s joined by Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins. As Marc Webb continues to ponder whether or not he wants to return to The Amazing Spider-Man for another go-round, another possible follow-up has popped up on the horizon. Webb is reportedly attached to direct the coming-of-age tale The Only Living Boy in New York, written by Rock of Ages scribe Allan Loeb.
Webb replaces Seth Gordon, who signed on to helm back in 2011. Percy Jackson & the Olympians star Logan Lerman (once a contender to play Spidey) was lined up for the lead role at the time, but it’s unclear if he remains on board. More after the jump.

Jennifer Connelly was one of the earliest names being rumored for Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah, with The Tracking Board preemptively announcing her casting as Naameh, wife of Noah (Russell Crowe) all the way back in April. However, while a slew of other names including Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, Emma Watson, and Ray Winstone have boarded the cast over the past several weeks, her status has remained uncertain. As of several days ago, we were even hearing that Julianne Moore was in consideration for the role originally said to Connelly’s.
But sometimes even apparently unfounded rumors turn out to have some truth to them, and this is one of those times. Various outlets are now reporting that Connelly has finally received an official offer, and is now in negotiations to join Aronofsky’s Biblical epic. More details after the jump.
