2017 Oscars Honest Trailer

The Oscars will be handed out this coming Sunday to honor some of the best achievements in film from the year 2016. Of course, the Oscars aren’t necessarily always an indication of the absolute best movies from the preceding year, if only because there’s a lot of politics and money involved, making it impossible for some deserving films to get nominated. And to make sure we don’t forget that the crop of Best Picture nominees this year are not safe from criticism, Honest Trailers has decided to poke fun at every single one of them.

2017 BAFTA Winners - La La Land

Just in case you thought La La Land was just an obsession of American critics and film industry insiders, the British equivalent of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just handed out the BAFTAs (which are basically the Oscars across the pond), and the musical from director Damien Chazelle took home plenty of awards with nary a competitor coming close to rivaling it.

La La Land took home several big awards, including Best Film and Best Director, and it snagged a few other trophies too. Lion also had a decent showing, while the rest of the awards had their love spread out over a great variety of films. Get the full list of 2017 BAFTA winners after the jump. Read More »

2017 DGA Award Winners - La La Land

The Academy Awards are just three weeks away, but until then we’re still hearing about various guilds handing out there awards honoring the films of 2016. Just last weekend the Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild handed out there awards, with La La Land and Hidden Figures taking home top honors in each ceremony. Now three more industry organizations have chimed in with their accolades.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA), the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA) all handed out their awards this past weekend, and while La La Land landed another big award, Lion got some love too, along with Zootopia. 2017 pga nominations

One of the big surprises of this awards season so far has been Deadpool‘s emergence as the scrappy little superhero movie that could. While its Golden Globe nomination wasn’t entirely unexpected, its Writers Guild nomination raised a few eyebrows. And now the Merc’s managed to wrangle himself a Producers Guild nomination as well.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual for the PGA nominations, which also went to favorites like La La Land and Moonlight. See the full list of 2017 PGA nominations below.  Read More »

La La Land - 2017 Critics Choice Awards

Awards season has officially begun, and we’re going to be hearing a lot about which movies are garnering accolades from various critics groups, guilds and eventually the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. The Independent Spirit Awards were first out of the gate with their nominations last week, and now the 2017 Critics Choice Awards nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association have arrived.

What’s fun about this particular line-up of nominees is that in addition to the usual powerful dramas that typically get nominated for awards, the BFCA also hands out awards for Best Action Movie, Best Sci-Fi/Horror Movie and Best Comedy, and the latter category isn’t full of movies pretending to be comedies like at the Golden Globes.

Lion trailer

Producer Harvey Weinstein sees awards potential in Lion, one of the two contenders he’s betting on this fall. The other awards hopeful film coming from TWC, in Harvey Weinstein’s eyes, is The Founder, based on the life of Ray Kroc. While that biopic is about a man driven by greed, Lion is a more kind-hearted and inspiring tale, about a man (Dev Patel) searching for his family.

Below, watch the Lion trailer.
