With just 50 days left until Gary Ross‘ The Hunger Games hits theaters, Lionsgate has released a thrilling new trailer that delves a little deeper into Katniss’ (Jennifer Lawrence) relationship with her sister Prim (Willow Shields) and, therefore, her reason for competing in the Games. The more love triangle-y aspects involving Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) take a backseat this time around, which is just fine by me.
But that’s not all — if you like what you see, you may also be interested to hear the news we have about the film’s opening. Yahoo! Movies and other websites are giving away the opportunity to attend The Hunger Games‘ world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, March 12. Meanwhile, the less lucky among us may have better luck snapping up tickets for just-announced IMAX screenings of the film, which begin March 23. Check out the details and watch the new trailer after the jump.

Two of the most in-demand action stars working right now may be on the verge of teaming up. Liam Hemsworth and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are close to signing on for Dito Montiel‘s Empire State, with the former on the verge of closing a deal and the latter in negotiations. The film sounds more or less like what you might expect from a collaboration between Hemsworth and Johnson: It’s an indie heist movie involving an armored car robbery. More details after the jump.

Here’s a pretty rote teaser trailer for Affliction: The Motion Picture… er, The Expendables 2, which puts Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham back at the forefront of an action extravaganza that also stars Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Check it out below if you want to see all those faces for a second or two each. Read More »
I don’t have any belief that The Expendables 2 is likely to be the movie I hope it will be. After the first movie, I’m not even convinced that this sequel is fated to be a solid action movie. But magic can happen. While we wait to see any footage from the movie that Simon West has been directing in Bulgaria, here’s a poster that also acts as the best collage of aging action stars you’re going to see this year.
I can easily see some young action fan having made a similar version of this poster by collaging stills in the late ’80s or early ’90s. This one really ups the ante with leather, flying dirt and a lot of thousand-yard (well, maybe 400-yard for some of those guys) stares.
Check out the full poster below. Update: image has been removed at the request of the studio. Read More »
Here’s the first full trailer for the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of The Hunger Games, the first novel in Suzanne Collins‘ darkly futuristic trilogy of novels about teenagers chosen by lottery to fight to the death as representatives of their local district. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth are the young leads in the Lionsgate film that could be the studio’s answer to Twilight, but hopefully with a harder edge.

Ever since it was revealed that the fifth installment of the Die Hard franchise, A Good Day to Die Hard, would include one new major character in the form of John McClane’s son, rumors have been circulating about who might be up for the gig. Now a new report has surfaced claiming that the studio and director John Moore are getting closer to casting the role. They’ve apparently narrowed down their options to just four actors: Aaron Paul, James Badge Dale, D.J. Cotrona, and (because no casting search is complete without him, apparently) Liam Hemsworth. More details after the jump.

With the uber-successful Twilight film series due to end next November, Hollywood is turning its attention that other Stephenie Meyer adaptation, the sci-fi romance The Host. In Time writer/director Andrew Niccol boarded the project earlier this year with Saoirse Ronan set to star, and now a group of young up-and-comers are getting ready to compete for the two male leads.
Liam Hemsworth (The Last Song), Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), Jai Courtney (Spartacus: Blood and Sand), and Max Irons (Red Riding Hood) are set to test for a character named Jared, while Dane DeHaan (The Place Beyond the Pines), Thomas McDonnell (Prom), Augustus Prew (Charlie St. Cloud), and Jake Abel (The Lovely Bones) will test for the part of Ian. More details after the jump.

Given Lionsgate’s tendency to trickle out The Hunger Games info one tiny bit at a time, you could be forgiven for rolling your eyes at yet another round of news on Gary Ross‘ dystopian teen epic. But happily, today’s offering is one of the most interesting things we’ve seen come out of the marketing team in a while.
The studio has just released eight brand-new character posters for the film, offering close-up profiles of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Haymitch (Woody Harrelson), Effie (Elizabeth Banks), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), Rue (Amandla Stenberg), and Cato (Alexander Ludwig). And trust me, they’re way more exciting than those district seals that were released earlier this month. Check ‘em out after the jump.
