On Thursday, July 9th, Lionsgate stormed Hall H with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the final chapter in the young adult sci-fi franchise. Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, director Francis Lawrence and producer Nina Jacobson were on hand for the panel, but we’ll get to that in another post.
Instead, we’d like to call your attention first to a new viral teaser featuring the crimson clad Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and a very coordinated white army. In addition, we’ll recap the full theatrical trailer for the end to the two-part finale. And considering this trailer won’t be released for a couple months, big fans of the franchise will probably want to read our description of the trailer.

There have been a ton of casting announcements over the last month for Roland Emmerich‘s upcoming Independence Day sequel, some of which we have missed reporting on. With the news today that William Fichtner is joining the ensemble which is currently filming, I thought now is a good time to do a round up of the Independence Day sequel cast, giving you all of the details on who is involved, returning, not returning, and what roles they may have in the upcoming sequel.

In the thriller Cut Bank, Liam Hemsworth plays a guy living in the so-called coldest spot in the United States. Naturally, he wants out. When he captures video of a murder, he gets the idea to use that video as his ticket out of town. And naturally, that doesn’t go so well. If that all sounds like it has the potential for a real Coen Brothers sort of vibe, the trailer will sell that idea even further. This Cut Bank trailer is great — it’s cut with a catchy, rhythmic and percussive attitude.
We don’t know if the film is also good, but the cast is hard to argue with (Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Billy Bob Thornton, Bruce Dern, Michael Stuhlbarg, seen above, and Oliver Platt) and having A24 as the film’s distributor suggests good things. This could all be taking place just down the road from Fargo; have a look. Read More »

It’s a shame The Hunger Games series gets filed into the “young adult” category. Sure, there’s some dystopian young romance in there, but with each subsequent film, the series proves it is about much more than unattainable love with sporadic action. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 takes the series to its furthest point from YA stereotypes yet.
However, what’s most interesting about this latest installment — the first part of a two-part finale — is just how different it is from the rest of the franchise. Is that a good thing? Below, read why The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 feels like a different franchise. Read More »

It’s impossible to predict the future, but only an idiot would bet against The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 making a crap ton of money this fall. The first two Hunger Games movies made enough money to turn star Jennifer Lawrence into the Guinness world record holder as the highest-grossing action heroine of all time, and the third looks on track to be just as big if not bigger.
Especially since Lionsgate is not holding back on the marketing. Hot on the heels of an epic new trailer, we have several high-res stills, featuring Katniss, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and more. See the new Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 images after the jump.
