Though I was excited by the earlier teaser for Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones, at the risk of sounding like a swooning fangirl, I have to say that even that pales in comparison to this new trailer. This time around, it’s Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) who takes over narrating duties, explaining exactly who everyone is and what they’re doing — without actually revealing anything at all, of course. Tricky eunuch bastard. Naturally, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Peter Dinklage gets some good face time as well. Watch the video after the jump. (Warning: Spoilers for Season 1 follow.)

Now this is more like it. The first teaser we got for Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones revealed absolutely nothing about the upcoming season, and though we’ve gotten some better looks since then — thanks to some behind-the-scenes production videos and a handful of set photos — it’s great to finally have a proper teaser with dramatic shots of the characters and landscapes to go with the requisite ominous voiceover.
Given that Season 2 will be based on A Clash of Kings, Book 2 of George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire series, it seems entirely appropriate that the narration in this teaser comes from one of the men determined to win the Iron Throne for himself: the brittle, humorless Stannis Baratheon, played by Stephen Dillane. Watch the trailer after the jump. (Warning: Major spoilers for Season 1/Book 1 ahead.)

Helmets and Scowling. Could be a new detective show, or a sludgy metal band from Ohio. In this case, those two words are simply the first things that come to mind when looking at new photos from Dredd, which is the second and hopefully superior adaptation of the long-running Judge Dredd comic book series. Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby, and Lena Headey star under the direction of Pete Travis. This batch of pics shows us a bit more than we’ve previously seen of the dour and harsh world in which Dredd and his burg Mega-City One exist. Check them out after the break, and see if they make you crack a smile. Read More »
Good morning — how about starting the day (and the week) with a little epic fantasy? Last night HBO aired a preview of the debut episode of Game of Thrones, which begins the herculean task of adapting the massive A Song of Ice and Fire series of fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin. The full episode will air in two weeks, but for now you can watch the same preview HBO ran. The twelve-minute opening of the show is online, and embedded below. Read More »
The new Judge Dredd film, simply called Dredd, is shooting now in South Africa with Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directing Karl Urban in the title role and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson. And now, if reports are true, they’ll be facing down a woman who made her mark as a queen in 300. Read More »
Briefly: Earlier today we saw some trailers and info on the new HBO offerings Mildred Pierce and The Sunset Limited. Now there’s a premiere date for Game of Thrones, the adaptation of George R.R. Martin‘s novels with a pilot directed by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor). The show will debut Sunday, April 17.
Though I wasn’t knocked out by the trailer for this one I’m still on the hook, not so much because of the source material (which I know is the key factor for a great many fans) but because I’m so curious to see what Tom McCarthy and his cast have done with an adult fantasy setting. David Benioff and Dan Weiss are the lead writers and producers, and the cast includes Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, Iain Glen, Lena Headey, Richard Madden and Sophie Turner. [EW]
The two teasers we’ve seen so far for the HBO series adaptation of George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones showed very little. What we did see had the color bled out to fit the dour tone of each teaser, and while the brief images were tantalizing, there was no way to get a real sense of how the series might play. So this new trailer is the first finished footage we’ve seen to complement the colorful behind the scenes clips doled out sporadically over the past months. Check it out after the break. Read More »
