The latest attempt to enhance your theatrical movie experience is already expanding. Last week, Peter and I told you all about Barco Escape, a new theatrical innovation that expands the normal movie screening with extensions on each side of the main screen. The result is a huge panoramic experience unlike anything you can see anywhere else. Barco Escape us currently playing at only five theaters in the U.S. with The Maze Runner, but the company has just announced one of its next events.

The announcement Blockbuster Video was closing all its physical locations marked the end of an era. Anyone who ever rented a movie at a video store took a moment to think back on how radically and quickly things have changed. It was a significant media moment.

What’s next, a Star Wars Christmas Special? This year, Disney got Pixar to do a Halloween TV special and on Thanksgiving, they’re doing it again. They’ve recruited another of their popular properties along with one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
The Muppets are teaming up with Lady Gaga for a Thanksgiving special on ABC called Lady Gaga & The Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular. It’ll be a 90 minute variety hour featuring all kinds of musical duets including Gaga, obviously, but also with Sir Elton John and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. There will be other surprises too. The marketing team at Apple would have you believe that there’s an app for everything, but when you’re a killer agent, sometimes you need your tools to be a little more hands-on. Count on Robert Rodriguez to fix that problem by hiding a blade inside the device.
That’s just one of the many ridiculous sights on display in Machete Kills, which once again stars Danny Trejo as ex-Federale Machete. When a billionaire arms dealer (Mel Gibson) plans to ignite a war by launching a missile into space, the President of the United States (Charlie Sheen, billed as “Carlos Estevez”) calls upon Machete to stop him. The sequel to Rodriguez’s 2010 action thriller features deadly broads, weaponized boobs, a cackling madman, President Charlie Sheen (or President Carlos Estevez, rather), and a Machete (Danny Trejo) who’s just been pulled back from the brink of death. Starring in movies isn’t just for movie stars anymore. The latest casting rumors surrounding Zoolander 2 and The Hobbit aren’t about the usual silver screen fixtures, but about pop personalities Lady Gaga and Stephen Colbert, respectively. Neither is a total stranger to films, but Gaga’s a musician first and foremost, and former Strangers With Candy actor Colbert is better known these days for his eponymous late night show.
