2014, KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE

Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of 2015’s most pleasant surprises, an ultra-violent James Bond riff with an anarchic streak a mile wide and a penchant for shocking reversals. Not even that truly awful second-to-last scene could derail one of the most spirited action movies of the past few years. It’s good! My only real concern about the upcoming sequel is that it won’t find a way to top the sheer, bloody insanity of the first movie.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is due out later this year and outside of an impressive cast and the return of director Matthew Vaughn, details have been kept under wraps. However, we do know that the next movie will find a way to utilize a scene that was cut from the first film.

kingsman resurrection

Kingsman: The Secret Service was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2014, a wild reinvention of old school spy movie imagery that never spared the gore while ruthlessly satirizing just about anything remotely connected to modern politics and espionage. It’s a messy movie, but it’s the best kind of messy – it has so much on its plate and so many targets in its sights that it moves breathlessly from one bizarre idea to another.

And it had a high body count, with large swaths of the original cast not living to see the credits roll. And now, a long-simmering rumor associated with the sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, has been seemingly confirmed: a certain dead character will somehow make it back for the sequel. This feels like the kind of reveal that will inevitably surface in a trailer, but proceed with caution and consider this a spoiler warning.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle promises to take the U.K. spy organization across the Atlantic, where they’ll hook up with their Stateside counterparts like Jack (Pedro Pascal) and Ginger (Halle Berry). But it’s still managed to find some room to loop in a major British icon. Elton John is reportedly in talks to join the action sequel, which will be directed once again by Matthew Vaughn.
