Thirty-five million dollars. That’s all that separates the worldwide grosses of the first Kick-Ass, and its sequel, Kick-Ass 2. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but when neither gross is over $100 million, and each cost about $30 million to make, it’s a big percentage. Because of that, plans to continue the franchise either with a Kick-Ass 3 or Hit Girl spin-off have pretty much stalled. Fans still talk about the ideas, though, and so do the filmmakers.
Case in point: Kick-Ass director and sequel producer Matthew Vaughn. In a new interview, he suggests he’d like to do a Kick-Ass prequel, centering on Hit Girl and Big Daddy, as a palate cleanser leading to Kick-Ass 3. Sounds awesome right? Well series co-creator Mark Millar is less optimistic about those movies actually happening. Check out the Vaughn and Miller Kick-Ass prequel and sequel quotes below. Read More »

The original Kick-Ass made Chloë Grace Moretz a household name, but Kick-Ass 2 didn’t fare quite so well with moviegoers. Now Moretz says Kick-Ass 3 isn’t happening at all, and it’s all because of the “fanboys” who wouldn’t pay for the movie. Hit the jump to read her comments on Kick-Ass piracy.

At the comic shop, Kick-Ass is over. The final issue of the series, Kick-Ass 3 #8, recently hit shelves, ending a six-year run for writer Mark Millar and artist John Romita Jr. That run didn’t only begin with the comics though. Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn developed the first Kick-Ass movie in tandem with Millar and Romita Jr. and hit theaters in 2010. It wasn’t a massive theatrical hit, but enjoyed success overall and spawned a film sequel in 2012. Kick-Ass 2, directed by Jeff Wadlow, was much less successful. Still, with only one film to go to complete the trilogy, many have wondered if the Kick-Ass 3 comics will also get adapted into a movie. According to Millar, it’s possible, but nothing is in the works. Read his Kick Ass 3 movie quotes below. Read More »

Mark Millar is known for his willingness to talk, and at times that has led to us peering through a certain amount of inflated discussion of projects that may or may not happen.
But Millar has been on the rise in Hollywood, and his talk about Kick-Ass 2, for example, was on the money. And he’s been hired by Fox to “godfather” the studio’s superhero films. That puts him in a consulting role on movies such as X-Men: Days of Future Past, which Bryan Singer is about to direct for a 2014 release.
Cornered at an event in Scotland, Millar talked about returning character Kitty Pryde, who presumably has a bigger role in this one than her earlier X-Men cameos. (“Let me put it this way though: Kitty Pryde fans will not be disappointed.) He mentions the mutant-killing robot Sentinels, too. (“I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story. They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers.”)
Millar also discussed the character riser of the film, and you can find those comments below. Read More »
