A couple of bits of interesting but as-yet-unconfirmed casting news have cropped up this weekend. One concerns Naturi Naughton, star of NBC’s upcoming series The Playboy Club, who may be joining forces with Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine; the other, frequent Adam Sandler collaborator Kevin James, who could be working with director Charlie Kaufman in Frank or Francis. More details on both projects after the jump.

Animation fans know Genndy Tartakovsky well. His shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and the first Star Wars: Clone Wars have long been revered but those unique talents have rarely been seen off the small screen. That’s about to change in a monstrous way.
Tartakovsky will direct Sony Pictures Animation’s 3D monster-themed family comedy Hotel Transylvania featuring the voice of Adam Sandler as Count Dracula, and a supporting voice cast including Steve Buscemi, Fran Drescher, Cee Lo Green, Kevin James, Andy Samberg, Molly Shannon and David Spade. Hotel Transylvania follows Dracula as he opens a hotel to keep his young daughter occupied with a never ending run of famous monster patrons like Frankenstein, Mummy and the Invisible Man. Things then get turned upside-down when a regular guy drops into the hotel and falls for her. It’s scheduled for release September 21, 2012. As Cannes rolls along there are a lot of new images and trailers for great, or at least interesting films. And then there’s this one. Zookeeper is the movie in which Kevin James thinks about quitting the job he loves (he’s a zookeeper, duh) so that Leslie Bibb will like him. But his animal charges can talk, as it turns out, and they teach him all about how to woo women. He probably ends up with Rosario Dawson, who has been working alongside him all this time. And in return, he takes a gorilla to TGI Fridays. This is all in the trailer, which is after the break. Read More »
Today Sony/Columbia has announced and/or confirmed three films, complete with release dates. The new version of Total Recall, to be directed by Len Wiseman starring Colin Farrell, will have an August 3, 2012 release. Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg are definitely teaming as father and son for I Hate You, Dad (previously reported as a possibility), which will hit on June 22, 2012. And the Kevin James MMA film we’ve talked about a couple of times gets a title, Here Comes the Boom, and a release date of July 27, 2012. More info on each film after the break. Read More »
Years ago, the idea of Brendan Fraser working with Neil LaBute would have been appealing. In 1998 it would have been the guy from Gods & Monsters being directed by the firebrand behind Your Friends and Neighbors. Good stuff. Now, well, it’s the guy from Furry Vengeance directed by the guy behind The Wicker Man. Not such an easy sell.
Still, let optimism reign. Brendan Fraser will star in Seconds of Pleasure, the new film Neil LaBute, about which details are non-existent. All we know is it will shoot in the UK this March. Alongside him will be Kristin Scott Thomas, with possible additions Colin Firth and Ed Harris. So that’s quite a solid cast if things come together. I’d love to see both these men make a good film again, so fingers are crossed. [Deadline]

Briefly: Once upon a time Adam Sandler would have been the name driving a new action comedy, but now he’s sharing the spotlight with his I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry co-star Kevin James. The two are the presumed leads for Valet Guys, based on a pitch Sony just purchased about two, er, veteran South Beach valet guys who witness a murder and consequently go on the run.
Deadline has the bare details, saying that Nick Bakay, a frequent Kevin James collaborator (producer on King of Queens and Paul Blart: Mall Cop writer, for example) will write the script with James. In other words, this has a better than average chance of getting made. And when it goes get made, you can bet that it’ll be critically bulletproof and hit $100m before you count to ten. But what the hell; the idea has easy, if well-worn comic potential. If you’re a Kevin James fan, the title and premise are probably enough to secure a ticket. Pass time with Kevin James in The Zookeeper, which opens on July 8, 2011, while you wait for this one.
