The film Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father has had a difficult path from development to screen. In fact, it looks like the project has fully stalled out before cameras were even able to roll.

While Barry Levinson came on board a few months ago (replacing Nick Cassavetes) and a cast had started to shape up with deals for John Travolta, Al Pacino, Ben Foster, Kelly Preston and possibly Joe Pesci, the time has come when some of those people were meant to be paid. And if reports are correct, there is no money to pay them. As a result, the movie has been put on hold. It almost certainly won’t make a planned January start date, but we don’t know if the project will die altogether. Read More »

One of the most unappealing film projects being assembled right now is the comedy version of the baby-birthing manual What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The book is frequently called out as being alarmist and a poor lesson plan for expectant mothers, but why not use the very recognizable title (recognizable to the target audience, at least) to sell a movie? Not much different from what’s happening with Akira, really.

Cameron Diaz is now looking like the lead for this particular movie, which Kirk Jones will direct from a swcript by Heather Hach and Shauna Cross. The picture is meant as a Love Actually-style film in which five couples experience the joy and surprises of impending parenthood. The film will hit on Mother’s Day weekend next year — in other words, a year from today. [Deadline]

After the break, Kelly Preston becomes a mob wife and Willem Dafoe is in a mystery movie directed by Abel Ferrara. Read More »

Movie Trailer #2: Kevin Spacey in ‘Casino Jack’

casino-jack-trailer-1a

When we first saw a trailer for Casino Jack, starring Kevin Spacey as disgraced ‘super lobbyist’ Jack Abramoff, the film was called Bagman and the trailer was miserable. Tonally the clip was all over the place, the voice over was laughable, and it committed a serious sin by trying to pretend that Rolling Stones songs like ‘Gimme Shelter’ and ‘Sympathy For the Devil’ have any life left for use in cinema.

Now there’s a new trailer, and it is certainly cut with a lot more skill and consistency. Check it out after the break. Read More »

bagman-trailer-1

There are two films about disgraced ‘super-lobbyist’ Jack Abramoff. The documentary Casino Jack & The United States of Money is in theaters now. The other, a feature once called Casino Jack and now titled Bagman, is directed by George Hickenlooper and stars Kevin Spacey as Abramoff. A promising combination, to be sure, but if this new trailer for the film is anything to go on, this is a promise unfulfilled. Read More »

The Last Song Movie Trailer

the last song
Walt Disney Pictures has released the trailer for The Last Song, an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ forthcoming novel, starring Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston.

THE LAST SONG is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father (GREG KINNEAR) gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter (MILEY CYRUS), who’d rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common—music—in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances.

The only reason I’m posting this trailer is that almost every girl I know seems to love (not just like, but love) the past adaptations of Sparks’ novels, like A Walk to Remember and The Notebook. The notes in this story ring too loud and obvious for me, as I’m sure it will for you. I guess every Sparks adaptation can’t be a home run, or else we’d never have Nights in Rodanthe. Watch the trailer after the jump.
