“Zero Dark Thirty” is a military slang term for super-early in the morning — that zone between midnight and 4am where a soldier might find himself stuck with some particularly crappy duty. Or the time where a raid might be launched on a wary target, the better to catch them off-guard.

Zero Dark Thirty is also the working title of Kathryn Bigelow‘s film about the SEAL Team 6 effort to kill Osama Bin Laden. The movie features Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Harold Perrineau, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Jennifer Ehle, Nash Edgerton, and Edgar Ramirez, and some early shooting is taking place now after months of prep, revisions and delays. Perhaps the reason Kathryn Bigelow has yet to decide on a title for her upcoming Osama bin Laden thriller is that she’s simply been too busy assembling a large, impressive cast. Jason Clarke (The Wettest County in the World) was the first to board back in November, and since then, Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Mark Strong, Edgar Ramirez, and Coach Taylor Kyle Chandler have all signed on for the picture as well. Now the latest additions are Jennifer Ehle, Harold Perrineau, and Nash Edgerton (yep, Joel’s brother). More after the jump.

When Peter Berg talked recently about the challenges of turning the Friday Night Lights TV show into a movie, one of the chief hurdles seemed to be scheduling. “Kyle [Chandler] is busy,” he said, and now we know one of the things that is keeping the actor away from the field.

Kyle Chandler has signed on to be a part of the ensemble cast in Kathryn Bigelow‘s movie about the Navy SEAL hunt for Osama Bin Laden. The movie was already in development from the Hurt Locker team of Bigelow and Mark Boal, in slightly different form, when it was announced that the Navy SEAL Team 6 had killed the terror figure. After that point it went back to the drawing board, and has slowly been gearing up to shoot. Read More »

Though we’ve been hearing rumors and reports for months about who might star in Kathryn Bigelow‘s untitled Osama bin Laden thriller for months, Joel Edgerton was only the film’s second confirmed star when his casting was announced hours ago. (The first, Jason Clarke, signed on back in November.) With just a month to go until the production’s targeted start date, however, the cast now seems to be falling into place at rapid speed.

It appears that Parks & Recreation star Chris Pratt has accepted the offer that was extended to him last month, making him the movie’s third star. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez are said to be circling the project as well. More details after the jump.

Last spring, we began hearing reports that Animal Kingdom star Joel Edgerton had landed a role in Kathryn Bigelow‘s still-untitled Osama bin Laden movie. However, a deal never really closed and as of last month it looked like scheduling issues had pulled him from the project altogether. Now it seems Edgerton is back in, and this time for good. A new story has surfaced indicating that Edgerton has officially boarded the film, joining previously cast star Jason Clarke. More details after the jump.

Though he’s been acting in film and television for over a decade, Chris Pratt is probably best known right now as irrepressible goofball Andy Dwyer on NBC’s Parks & Recreation — but that could be changing soon. The actor got a chance to show off his more serious side in this summer’s Moneyball and now, he may be about to head even further into dramatic territory. According to a new report, Pratt is now in talks to join Jason Clarke in the cast of Kathryn Bigelow‘s untitled movie about the killing of Osama bin Laden, due out late next year from Sony. More details after the jump.

Jason Clarke Cast in Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden Film

The Hurt Locker collaborators and Oscar winners Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have been moving forward with plans to shoot a film, once called a ‘black ops thriller’ about a Navy SEAL operation meant to kill Osama Bin Laden. The film was already well under development when Bin Laden was actually killed earlier this year. Trouble was, the film ended with a failed operation, and in light of real-world events that didn’t seem likely to go over well with audiences. So Bigelow and Boal have been revamping, and now they’re starting to cast the film.

The first actor fully set for the still-untitled film is Jason Clarke, who shot The Wettest County in the World earlier this year under the direction of John Hillcoat, and is now shooting The Great Gatsby with Baz Luhrmann. Read More »
