Well, it’s about time. A couple of months ago, we got an amusing first teaser for HBO’s Veep, and last week saw the release of a short featurette from the set. But it’s only now that we’re finally getting a real look at the series, a political satire of contemporary American politics from In the Loop director Armando Iannucci.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars as a senator who wins the office of vice president of the United States, only to find that the job isn’t at al what she expected. Also starring are Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, Sufe Bradshaw, and Tony Hale (looks like all that schooling finally paid off for Buster).
In addition, the network has unveiled another new trailer for Girls, Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) and Judd Apatow‘s comedy about twentysomething women trying to make it in the big, bad city. Watch the videos after the jump.

This winter’s been so mild that it feels more like April than February, but unfortunately, actual spring is still some weeks away — which means we’ve still got some waiting to do before HBO kicks off its spring schedule. Thankfully, the network’s been good about reminding us of exactly what we have to look forward to, in the form of teasers, trailers, clips, and the like.

As we head toward the Oscars and therefore the end of awards season, it’s time to take a better look at some of the films we’re anticipating from 2012. While I’m sure that Luck, Life’s Too Short, and Angry Boys each have their charms, it’s HBO’s spring lineup I’m really looking forward to. Between Game of Thrones‘ return and the debuts of Judd Apatow’s Girls and Armando Iannucci’s Veep, I already know exactly what I’ll be doing each Sunday from April through June. Drew Goddard‘s long delayed deconstructive horror film, The Cabin in the Woods, is so good it deserves a massive coming out party. That’s exactly what it’s going to get this March.
The Cabin in the Woods was just announced as the opening night film of the 2012 South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival which will take place in Austin, Texas from March 9-17. Co-writer and producer Joss Whedon will be on hand for a conversation panel the day after the upcoming HBO TV show Girls, produced by Judd Apatow and starring Lena Dunham, will also debut, screening several episodes along with Q&As featuring much of the creative team. Though Melissa McCarthy was the big breakout star of last spring’s Bridesmaids, it was really Kristen Wiig‘s movie. The Saturday Night Live vet not only played the lead, she also co-produced the project and penned its script with co-writer Annie Mumolo. It’s tough to imagine seeing another Bridesmaids without Wiig — but apparently, that’s exactly what Universal is considering.
With Wiig and Mumolo reportedly uninterested in doing a sequel, the studio is now weighing the possibility of moving forward without them, and pinning its hopes on McCarthy to help get the project going. More details after the jump.

If CBS’ 2 Broke Girls didn’t quite prove to be edgy enough for you, perhaps HBO’s thematically similar new series Girls will fit the bill. Created by Lena Dunham (Tiny Furniture) and executive produced by Dunham, Judd Apatow, and Jenni Konner, the comedy follows a group of 20something women — aspiring writer Hannah (Dunham) and her BFFs (Jemima Kirke from Tiny Furniture and Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams) — as they struggle to make it in the big city.
