You may not remember the first time we reported on the sci-fi romance Upside Down, because it was over two years ago, in fall 2009. The film stars Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess as lovers of a sort. They inhabit two different worlds, visualized in the film as inverted images of one another, and where the world ‘up top’ is far more well to do than the one ‘down below.’

The film has some striking visuals — there is some Alex Proyas, some Andrew Niccol, and even some Wong Kar Wai in there. It’s a great trailer to kick off the new year, and you can check it out below. Read More »

A man and a woman fall in love but are separated by two different dimensions. No, it’s not only plot to The Lake House, it’s also the plot to Upside Down, the topsy turvy sci-fi romance written and directed by Juan Diego Solanas, which stars Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst. The pair were officially cast in the film way back in October of 2009 and over the summer, we posted a short set visit video. Dark Fields set

A couple new on set behind the scenes video pieces have appeared on the web today, including a visit to the set of Neil Burger‘s Dark Fields, where they are shooting “critical scene” on the streets of Philadelphia with Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, and Entertainment Tonight’s visit to the set of Juan Diego SolanasUpside Down which involves stars Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst flying through the air on a blue screen stage.

I’ve been keeping an eye on Juan Diego Solanas‘ surreal-sounding sci-fi story Upside Down for a while now. The picture has been in development with Onyx films and Studio 37 for a good while, and has never quite got off of the starting blocks – perhaps due to its mind boggling central concept.

Kirsten Dunst has been in talks to star for some months, I believe, but the news that Jim Sturgess will be taking on the male lead comes after earlier reports that Emile Hirsch was negotiating for the role. Sturgess is a real trade up from Hirsch, I think.
